it will be built. the federal gov was expected to allocate 2/3 of the projects' costs. that is why it is taking so long it will be built

They’re still building it. What’s being built now is what was voted for, a high speed train connecting LA and SF via the Central Valley cities. They’re starting in the Central Valley for several reasons, including limited funding. If they had more funding they could start on expanding beyond the Central Valley. And if you want to talk about a real ‘boondoggle’, how about the billions of dollars spent every year on expanding freeways that only make traffic worse and further increase our dependency on cars? Building alternatives to driving like high speed rail is the only proven way to actually reduce traffic and decrease car dependency.
