I went on a snowholing trip with my college mountaineering club in 1994. We dug snowholes in the same place as you, just below the summit. I wish I'd had a cool bike like that to descend with. The advice back in the day was just to bury your poo. Excellent to see this place again, thank you.

Truly beautiful, inspiring film making. You craft together gutsy and cosy in such a unique and unassuming way. Thank you for going to lengths to produce and share this film - sometimes quite literally as you must have had quite a hike back up the hill to retrieve your camera for some of those shots!

Thanks so much Lindsay, im glad it was worth the effort :) It did end up being a longer hike than i expected a couple times!

Hi Annie! 5 * wonderful stuff as always. Very classy digs for the night, the tealight candles on the candle shelves just made it look so cosy. One of my favourite viewpoints is where you watched the sunrise, especially in winter. Enjoyed recognising where you were throughout the vid, except for the whiteout bit of course 😀

Hi Debra, Yes, its such a lovely top. I love all the rimed up boulders, they make such great shapes. I also expected other folk to have come up early given the forcast and thought id get more peace than the munro. In the end no one else was up till like 10am! Hope you are well :)

Brilliant, I love a good snowhole! This year was hopeless in Scotland so I went to Norway with my son to find snow, and there was plenty there. Just a suggestion; it’s a really good idea to have a chimney hole above your stove to allow steam out and ensure ventilation. If you put a walking pole or similar through it you can keep it clear. In drifting conditions it really helps avoid the serious risk of suffocation. I love the bike!
@annieleoutside60449 ай бұрын
Hey Charles thank for watching! Yes, it been a rubbish winter, i live at the base of the cairngorms and havent managed a snow hole this year. Glad you found snow elsewhere. You cant see it in the video, but i have my probe through the roof above the stove creating a vent and as the weather was calm i made a large doorway and left it open to allow plenty of ventiliation :)

@@annieleoutside6044 glad to hear it; I’ve been snowed in and had to dig out once or twice and it’s not very nice. The first trip I made with my son was when he was 12 and I carried all the kit and dug three holes in three days; he’s 27 now and the balance has swung the other way! I’ve invited my daughter many times but she just thinks it’s madness.

I dug one recently up near Lochnagar, there's a couple decent locations nearby. One tip re poop, if done before sleeping: lay it in a 'shallow grave' in the snow, it'll have frozen overnight and is easier to then bag. I think Coire na Ciste car park at Cairngorm actually has a human waste bin for disposal due to the volume of winter skills training occurring higher up.

Inspiring stuff. Never seen a time out from digging a snow hole for a tea break before. That fog reminded me of skiing in Glenshee and Glencoe as a kid. Next to no visibility - just skied in the general direction of the sound of the old diesel motors used on the lifts back then.
@annieleoutside60442 жыл бұрын
Theres no way im fit enough to dig it in one go! Saying that i made it way bigger than needed, but it was comfy. Yeah, the fog is so tricky, i had to nav on a bearing to the snow hole site. It makes me feel sea sick.
