Why do you need to do that when you can just carry a shuvle make a hole. Poop in it then cover it up and then it decays on its own? There is poo lying around from many other animals. We are animals too 💩😅. It's un acceptable to leave it raw there but aslong as its covered by a big rock and well off the path or something. Surely that's OK. If it's winter though yeah you don't have much option do you. But again itl just decay with the melt even if you just burry it in the snow. Surely. Not sure many people will carry your poop to that extreme 😅 as long as its done off the path and berries and covered. It's poop in the end. It's nature. It decays. Same as all the other poop cows made hhaa Brilliant video 🙏 not many girls out there doing nice solid proper winter camps like this 👍👍

You can't shovel a hole in the ground when it's frozen, it can be rock hard ground. People drink from the streams here which are seen to be pristine, there are thaws quite often and it's nice to not have raw poo washed quickly into the streams. I've seen shit that's been buried under snow then exposed by a thaw, it's not nice. This is what's recommended by the Cairngorms Park, the various estates and also mountaineering organisations, it's what they are asking people to do, and is recommended practice that's well known. Also, pathogenically not all poop is the same, and neither is it the same with regards to how it decomposes and affects a fragile environment, your view is simplistic. In some areas in the Cairngorms there has been a real problem with excessive waste buried in snow, it's not a big deal to carry it out.
@annieleoutside6044
@annieleoutside6044 7 күн бұрын
Exactly what @moab_in said. The uk is actually really far behind other countries in dealig with human waste. In many countries it is a requirement to carry out human waste in national parks. We are lucky that we can still drink the water untreated in most of the highlands, but there are areas which are now recomended to avoid due to contaminination from human poo. Human poo also carries all sort of undigested medicines and hormones from things we take, which then contaminate the enviroment. The Cairn Gorms are high mountains with arctic like conditions, so that even in summer it is often too cold for any meaningful decomposition. There are also high use areas used for camping and snowholing, which is why this scheme was introduced, in 2007 to reduce the very obvious pollution.

Yep all well said. I have my own poo tube that I use with poo bags and disinfect it between trips. Ideal for the environment especially with the level of footfall nowadays. More people more poo 💩😊
@GoSummitSolo
@GoSummitSolo 5 күн бұрын
@overthescottishhill5687 it all just turns into the land 😅. If its berried. It's fertiliser. Yeah people dont berry their poo which is bad. . It's an idea aye, but not sure carrying it is what many people would do rather than buy a shuvle and burry it is easier. Again, what do animals do? 😅 It's not exactly littering plastic. Mind u it's very rare that I have a poop out anyway in the winter days on a camp. Very rare. But it's a good idea just cant see how many ppl would do it. Plus not as many people out on winter days anyway The last thing someone wants to do is deal with their own poo like it's a dogs. So that's why u ether hold it 😅 and do it once back or burry it. Its just the most natural and hydenic way. That plastic bag ur throwing away every time ain't good for the environment but poo doesn't matter haha
@GoSummitSolo
@GoSummitSolo 5 күн бұрын
@@annieleoutside6044 and every product we buy aimlessly too gets dumped in waste land in other countries not our country . All these extra clothes we need to replace our old ones with ect ect... These plastic bags I guesse we use every time to scoop that poop into the poop box maybe? That's much worse. Anyway. I get the idea behind it. But I still think a trowel is better. It is discusting people out these days don't care though as they arnt outdoorsy people as much as true outdoorsy people are they are out for the bag and otherwise don't care. So least it promotes them to do something about it perhaps. Cux they wouldn't go through the hassle of a trowel. I guesse

Awesome scenery and trip. Some of it reminds me of Australian conditions and the topography of some of our mountains. Curious as to how often in a Scottish winter you get conditions like this? Oneday I'd love to come over with my brother and explore your mountains in winter however I get the feeling that such conditions are rare. Jen and I are hoping to come over in April-May next year though and potentially do some whitewater packrafting and maybe some sea kayaking so I might PM you about any ideas you might have. Cheers

Hey Mark! In terms of snow cover, late January to mid march is the most reliable. Although within that it is always possible to get a big southerly storm that will give a full depth thaw. But you would have a good chance of getting reasonable snow somewhere, especially if you were happy to climb, hike or ski rather than just plan for one of those. In terms of such great weather... It wouldnt suprise me if that was the best three consequative days this winter.. Please give me a shout if you make it over next year!

Brilliant, I love a good snowhole! This year was hopeless in Scotland so I went to Norway with my son to find snow, and there was plenty there. Just a suggestion; it’s a really good idea to have a chimney hole above your stove to allow steam out and ensure ventilation. If you put a walking pole or similar through it you can keep it clear. In drifting conditions it really helps avoid the serious risk of suffocation. I love the bike!

Hey Charles thank for watching! Yes, it been a rubbish winter, i live at the base of the cairngorms and havent managed a snow hole this year. Glad you found snow elsewhere. You cant see it in the video, but i have my probe through the roof above the stove creating a vent and as the weather was calm i made a large doorway and left it open to allow plenty of ventiliation :)
