This is what makes a city like Cairo so special when compared to cities that are perhaps richer and cleaner like Dubai, it's the people, the history. It's like a cocktail of different cultures and civilizations all crammed into one megacity.

A lot of the palaces and mosques in Cairo were built using stone they had stolen from the pyramids and temples at the Giza plateau. The beautiful white casing stones that covered the entire grand pyramids to make the surface smooth, gone. I wish it wasn't so :/
Yeah, I thought it was great there. I went there with my family too and everyone there was very nice.

I respect the culture the generosity, humbleness, Nasir the person who showed me Egypt and the old Cairo Along with people at the hotel who showed me around. My unforgettable dinings on the boat down the Nile were very pleasant...But more than anything the people around the city always offering coffe, tea or coca cola...I enjoyed and have very good memories of strong Turkish coffee....I was there before the Facebook revolution...i love you all...if GOD permits I shall return...

My favorite line: "This is the right place. I don't know what you're looking for but I have what you need." Man, I stopped by one shop to buy some incense...just because I was there and it seemed like a good souvenir, and this shop keeper made me tea, had me sit down, talked to me for a while..which I was fine with because I was tired from walking....and then he tried to sell me the incense. He wanted $100 for a bag of incense. I tried to tell him that $100 doesn't even make sense....I'd give him $5. He went on and on about how it was the best. I finally just had to walk away as he was still talking. I bought the same stuff...at least it looked the same...around the corner for $2.

Magnificent! I admire you for going down those side alleys! I remember when I was there, I went off on my own (starting point Cairo Museum), and was soon lost in the back streets. I managed to purchase lovely sandals with shiny, silver Audi pens. Also haggled with the US Dollar (I had some ready for better deals, although I'm from UK). The biggest difference I noticed on your video from my visit, is back then there were no mobile/cell phones or tablets!!!

the advantage of a narrow street ,that is between buildings/establishments is that one can have at least shade from the midmorning or afternoon sun,,as well a feeling of being walking in a friendly/welcoming setting!
