There are way too many people who have never watched, and who know nothing about the history of women’s basketball running their mouths. Also, everyone in professional sports gets banged up. Entire draft class my a*s. You all don't just get to say sh*t because it makes you _feel_ better. Here the FACTS: Connecticut Sun hadn't sold out a game in 10 years. First time CC in town, BAM, sellout. The Indiana Fever attendance has increased from 4,000 per game last year to 16,600 this season. Done quadrupled that sh*t. They went from second to last in attendance during the 2023 season to first place this season, and they're a whopping 4,000 people per game ahead of the #2 team in attendance, which happens to the be the New York Liberty. So Caitlin Clark, in tiny little tv market of Indianapolis, is whooping #1 tv market in the country NYC's behind. The Fever have _already_ surpassed their attendance for the ENTIRE 2023 SEASON and we only 5 games into 2024, ffs. Who ELSE you think is causin' that? And the only reason NYC is even in second is because (uh huh, you guessed it) CC done played in New York TWICE already, which caused the Liberty's ticket sales to go through the roof. The first time Clark played there the Liberty set an all-time WNBA single game attendance AND revenue record. Conversely, the other prominent rookie, Reese, has barely made a blip in the Sky's attendance. They were 6th in attendance in 2023 yet they're currently 7th. So, Reese comin' in actually made them DROP a rank in attendance whereas CC's presence made the Fever go up ELEVEN spots in the attendance rankings. Overall league attendance is up 40% from last season and it's ALL the Clark Effect.

@LouSeph7 ай бұрын
The NBA had Dr.J in the 70s - the league went bankrupt. Did he put in the work? Magic and Larry put in more work? You missing the point. If you want to talk about what’s fair - run the league like a charity and sit at the kids table. I had WNBA league pass last year. Kobe got me into women’s basketball - to give it a real chance. These women talking down to men -the same women talk crazy about male athletes but men can’t comment on OBVIOUS jealousy that is being displayed? This is gaslighting. If you wanna be equal to the men - you are gonna get criticized like the men. The Pistons beat up MJ / and they were called the “Bad Boys” and the entire league hated them, the NBA changed the rules and Isiah Thomas was a pariah for a long time. So the WNBA can’t play prison ball against Caitlin Clark and differently against everyone else and think no one would notice or say something. Nothing wrong with playing hard. No one is saying let CC win or that they should let her score. But her being doubled more than any player in the league is wild and these women are trying to beat her up and it’s cringe to watch. The WNBA is a business and they have never turned a profit. Not once. This is their moment for all of them. MJ got people to a tv - once there they saw the other greats and all their pay went up. All of them got ad deals. Maybe MJ got the most - but they all got it. Remember MJ had a shoe as a rookie too. The first ever player and he was a rookie.

They don’t need to play prison ball against CC. It’s clear to anyone watching the games how differently she is being treated than even the other rookies. The NBA doesn’t do this to rookies - even LeBron didn’t get this and the NBA was making money when he came in. They had a reason to resent him being touted as a savior. These women certainly built the foundation and many of them are better than CC. I liken her to Steph and Magic. Steph was the most popular player - not the best. He is great but he would not of worked in 90s NBA. The NBA changed the rules to clean it up. Now I think they went too far but currently they found a good balance in these playoffs. I think the other women need to look at the attention CC is getting and display their game. Not display pettiness. Get people to learn their names and say - oh who is that her game is nice! If women actually watched women's sports, Caitlin "The Great White Hope" Clark, would have never been a phenomenon.
@TickleMeElmo557 ай бұрын
She would still be a phenom because no one did what she did in college in the last decade besides that one chick who got cut from LV Aces recently (third in all-time collegiate scoring).

Exactly, being female, I've never been interested. I always felt they were "catty" with each other. I never see that in any men's sports. I did watch the college finals to see her play, and I really enjoyed it, because both teams were good. She's brought attention like never before, and since when has tarausi ever spoken negatively about a female college player going to the wnba before. She actually plays for the mercury here in AZ and I've never had any interest in the team, even though they've won a few championships, and still don't watch. If I catch a game when Caitlyn plays, I might watch . It's not her fault she is getting all the attention, crazy how the negativity is coming from women, not surprised.
@moniquej3696 ай бұрын
Who says women don’t watch women’s sports? Stop making assumptions. Plenty of women support each other. The ones that don’t aren’t real sports fans, they just watch whatever the men in their lives watch. Smh. Before the Caitlin Clark hype majority of their supporters were women.
@moniquej3696 ай бұрын
@@Sunny-il1xmspeak for yourself. And clearly you’re not a real sports fan. It’s called being competitive, it has nothing to do with being “catty.” It gets heated in the men’s game all of the time, but no one has a problem with that. They also don’t get hit with labels like “jealous” or “catty” when they refuse to kiss the rookies behinds. Basketball is a competitive sport and everyone is trying to be the top dog. When you come into a professional league with the popularity and expectations that Caitlin has, you’re naturally going to have a target on your back. That’s the nature of sports and competition. Stop putting unfair labels on them just because they’re women. That’s what’s wrong with society today. False narratives and double standards are why it has taken the women’s game so long to grow.

The point that is overlooked is that it's been only a few years since the NCAA allowed college players to accept sponsorships/endorsements - so they could appear in ads. Because of that, Caitlin Clark became an instant winner in the ad world and soon became a mega millionaire appearing in ads for not only sports products, but also home and car insurance, etc. Not many college athletes were able to do that. It is not automatic. It's not "win a trophy and you'll be rich." You have to be marketable. Your face, your persona has to be sellable. Caitlin was and still is. Caitlin came to represent what we want women athletes to look like and what many people strive to look like - tall, thin and attractive. Her marketability had and still has nothing to do with the WNBA. She did not strive to be the face of the WNBA. She merely added "drafted by a pro team" to her image. Now some of the WNBA players are acting like they are high school girls who are insanely jealous of the girl sports star who became the homecoming queen. A serving of plain jealousy with a side of greed is how I see it.
@thewolfofwallstreet6277 ай бұрын
I don't know if I'd say Caitlin is a super model like you're implying she is. I'd say she's more of an 8 or 7 at best, but that's mostly due to her personality than anything else. I think the reason why Caitlin is so marketable apart from her ability to shoot the 3 ball and passing skills is because she represents what people want not just out of female players but male ones too. For years, people have complained that NBA and WNBA players are starting to come off as entitled. You have people like LeBron James and others lecturing their audiences saying if he don't say or do x, then we're racists. If you disagree with me, then you're toxic. We don't want you, and blah blah. People are getting tired of it, and Caitlin comes in with a wholesome persona saying all the right things, and she merely just wants to play basketball for the love of the game. How refreshing is that? A player who actually loves the game, and she's more focused on that than her own image. Granted, we both know that's a lie to some extent considering she wouldn't have as many endorsement deals if she didn't care about her image to some degree, but even still. She's not lecturing anyone about their lives. She just wants to play basketball, and she's not telling fans to go "f" themselves if they disagree with her. It's refreshing, which makes her likeable and marketable.

The NBA technically "saves" the WNBA every year. The NBA plays a crucial role in supporting the WNBA, although it doesn’t fully fund it. Currently, the NBA owns 50% of the WNBA, while the remaining 50% is distributed among the franchise owners. Additionally, the NBA provides an annual endowment of over $15 million to help cover various operating costs for WNBA teams, including facilities, travel, marketing, and administration. Without this financial support, the WNBA would likely struggle to sustain itself independently, given its lower revenue compared to the NBA. By subsidizing the WNBA, the NBA champions gender equality in sports and provides role models for aspiring female players. Read that last line again. I'm not seeing many role models.

The people coming in to comment are people who either follow Caitlin Clark in from college or who are NBA fans looking for a fix and something different. The WNBA is not a magical and mysterious league with different rules. The WNBA is not a more physical league although it might look that way. They're actually just clumsy and running into each other because they don't have the dribbling skills to get around each other or the jumping skills to dunk over each other. There's no prior knowledge that anyone needs in order to make comments about the WNBA if they're coming from another form of basketball. That's just the way to impose a barrier of entry so that people can keep their niche hobby to themselves
