Coach Nick is a fan. And, so am I! I don't want to get into the hair slicing and nit picking..but for me, without hesitation, she is a top five WNBA player RIGHT NOW. What she brings to the game is transcendental. As much love basketball and have tried to, I have never watched as much WNBA as I have this season--by a country mile. I don't know how many players you could put on the Indiana Fever and get the same results? 1? 2? None? I don't know, but not many. I think this was just the tip of the Clark Effect iceberg. That she is this dominant as a rookie is ridiculous. Yes, A'ja Wilson is great and probably deserves MVP for the stats. Clearly though, and without a doubt, Caitlin is the MVP for the entirety of the WNBA's existence. The lack of attendance at the US women's Olympic games proved it. The thing that makes so many of us stand aghast is how willing the WNBA is to try to destroy its most important star rather than support her.

You know dudes were jealous haters when Mj entered the Nba or when Tiger Woods joined the Pga tour. But . . . they (mostly) kept it together and realized the greater, more important truth - As this person elevates our league, it elevates ALL of us . . . money, recognition, tv deals etc. Plus, I think men just respect the talent at the end of the day as well. I'm not sure the Wnba women understand ANY of this. Or at least their behavior and talk would seem to indicate that they don't. So petty it's shocking.
@johnreesekl6249

I don't have the number in front of me, but if I had to guess Indiana Fever games garner more viewers in front of TVs, more fans in the seats, and more YT content, then the entirety of the U.S women's Olympic experience. What made the snub even more appalling was the ghastly guard play (Plum was OK). But, as many have adroitly mentioned, it was a blessing in disguise. No human being can play constant competitive basketball, the mind and body need to recover.

@@bballbreakdown It reminds me of the story from Jackie MacMullen on The Book Of Basketball podcast about how a lot of NBA vets were astoundingly jealous of and hated Michael Jordan for the $$$ he got from endorsements as a rookie, so they constantly trash talked him and ripped him to his face the second he entered the league (with Larry Bird and Dr J being the only two who didn't, with Dr J saying the players would all benefit in the long term thanks to having new leverage; sadly, everyone at the time ignored Julius). It has that same vibe, only replace endorsement money with fan and media attention: they hate she is bringing in huge amounts of people that they never could, and want to tear her down instead of embracing it and helping the league grow. The only question is if they will look as stupid as those who attacked Michael look now.

Of course he has his reasons....the most important being he wants to recruit black athletes. If he doesn't support their "cause" he won't be able to recruit them. I think that will change though. Clark has and will continue to impact the game. Her teammates have to improve play to keep up with her. They have to go to the basket and be prepared for a pass. You can already see that they have improved their three point shooting and shoot away when the opportunity comes. Other teams will see what's happening and improve their play too. Other players will recognize the difference in play and the tables will turn. Geno will have to revisit his comments. Maybe Clark wasn't so bad after all.

I mean i think we should just all admit Swoops, while a legend, is bitter about the incoming $$ she won't be able to benefit from as a retired player, and its a racist take. If Clark wasn't a white girl from Iowa, Swoops would be in love.

Caitlin Clark isn't just top 5. She's arguably top 2 and mvp depending on one's definition of mvp. She brought a team to their first playoffs in nearly a decade. In just one season, she has changed the entire wnba landscape. In terms of talent, fans, etc. Tin foil hat : swoops is doing all this on purpose to bring even more attention to cc and wnba.

if CC learns to clamp down on D, bring down her TOs, and maybe nudge her shooting percentage up a bit, she'll be an all-time great. Given how much she has done in her rookie season, this is possible, no doubt.

She may not be the best one-on-one defense but best defense is mostly team defense, and caitlin is better as help defense, it is not an accident that she has a lot of blocks for a guard. And she steals too...

Excellent breakdown Coach Nick! Caitlin Clark is already tied for the most CAREER games with at least 20 pts and 10 assist in WNBA history, and she is also the FIRST player to average at least 15-5-5 for a season. If that doesn't put her as one of the top 3 already I don't know what else would.

One of the biggest differences from early in the season to now is her teammates also know where to go on the court. There were many passes that could have been caught early on that her teammates were almost surprised she could make, you can see them hitting those open spots more now and making the easy catches. Her passing is insane, she finds the open space so much better than just about anyone, and now that her teammates are hitting those spots its opening up so many more basket opportunities as they have been ripping the whole post olympic break.

Clark should be the WNBA MVP. Every team adjusted their defense because of Clark. She turned the Indiana Fever into contenders. The MVP is not always the best player. Clark is clearly the most valuable player. Every player, team, and the league benefited because of Clark. End of story.

It is too bad that Swoopes recruited both NaLyssa Smith and DiJonai Carrington into hating Caitlin Clark before the WNBA Draft. Swoopes had all ready been caught in her lies on the Gill's podcast and was trying to get the WNBA stirred up to give Caitlin a hard welcome to the WNBA and was requesting Angel and WNBA vets to say the Caitlin and Iowa and Indiana Fever fans are nasty to Swoopes and Angel. NaLyssa would have had a fun season this year if Swoopes had not sucked NaLyssa into all of the hate.Swoopes is so desperate for Gil's Arena to help her talk players to leave Indiana Fever by agreeing with her on this program... Swoopes KNOWS that everyone on the Indiana Fever right now has a huge spotlight on them and each of their names are going down in WNBA History as the first team that played with Caitlin Clark in 2024.

I've been saying this since beginning of the season. These girls never had someone who could pass them the ball like this. So they weren't ready. A lot of her early turnovers were teammates not ready. But now they know she is HER. So now they know when they are open, they are ready. Haters gonna hate.

I’m a 56 yo man. Don’t really watch the NBA any longer , watch a lot of college ball. Never watched a second of WNBA action. Jumped on the CC fan train in her senior year of college. Now I try to catch as many of the Fevers games as possible. I am just so confused why the other ladies are so mad at her and show her hate. They really should be overjoyed that the league is getting attention and a new fan base . She has some serious skills , her passing game is on point and some of those 3’s , man she’s shooting from the logo, I could never hit those when I was a 20 something lol…makes me jealous .

Dianna was RIGHT. 'She said it was diff playing against grown women and to give yourself grace as a rookie to make mistakes and improve.' CC was a turnover machine for the first quarter of her season. She improved, her coaches adjusted, they put her teammates in position to be better targets and the team has been winning now. WNBA is for sure tougher than NCAA. CC learned that with all the physical abuse she took. We do not CC our fandom--- she earned mine and didn't come from what she did in college.
