Like, there are people getting "cancelled" for no reason (false allegation), but there are also many who deserved it (consequences)
@ronmorey34752 жыл бұрын
True, the term gets thrown around too loosely these days, but there is definitely a problem. The problem is not consequences -we've always had those-the problem now is that the consequences are often ridiculously disproportionate to the alleged offense and even the most heartfelt apologies are never good enough. Destroying someone's livelihood because they told a joke someone didn't like. Doxing people who voted the "wrong" way? Vindictive mob behavior in this form is a fairly new phenomenon, aided largely by social media.

Great episode! Love the conversation! This may be an overly simplified read on this but I feel like it's highlighting the difference between someone who is doing what they think they are supposed to be doing socially and someone who is just being themselves and maybe not fully understanding what is expected and why. Particularly during the "social graces" discussion. This is something I run into a lot where I may not just turn right around and ask the same questions others ask of me (ie.,how are you doing etc.) and not meeting that expectation tells them something about me that is not necessarily true in terms of why I'm not reciprocating.

Their social graces discussion was really interesting to me, I hope they finish it sometime later because I relate to it so much. I understand her point of view that she's interested in like the respect or whatever that is returned but to me it's just someone wasting my time. If I ask someone something it's because I want to know about it not because I feel obliged to go through some sort of social bullshit for the sake of it. It feels gross and superficial to me to a point where that person immediately loses points with me. I much prefer someone to just say hi and then go back to talking to someone else than ask some artificial question they don't want to know the answer to.
