I really agree that SM takes all the bashing for their songs and concepts being so experimental, but give it a few weeks and months and some companies will try to do that too. Because even though at first listen their experimental songs are hard to get into, as time passes they become stuck into people's heads and become iconic. And the smart thing about this is that SM gets to say they did it first.

SM just knows how to make weird ass songs super catchy. And even if you don't like the song at first it'll be stuck in your head until you finally check it out time and time again. And before you know it you're absolutely obsessed. A big reason why this work for SM is also because they have absolutely STELLAR singers. Without that talent and hardwork it just wouldn't work.

Thanks for the honest reaction Caitlin! Aespa's concept is really complicated, also the reason people hold back on stanning them, it takes quite a while to understand their terms and vocabulary (But it's so worth it though). SM songs usually take a few listens to vibe with which is very interesting because sm is all about experiments, they're not afraid to try out new things, which is why I love SM's production a lot.

Aespa has one of the most unique concepts in all of kpop. So basically they have their virtual selves (the AE members) that live in a virtual SM cultured universe called kwangya. I think they team up with their virtual selves to fight off Black mamba. I'm not sure tbh it's very confusing but it's interesting and definitely something never tried before. I like their futuristic/cyberpunk genre it's very cool. Jamming to their songs rn

Winter is the visual, lead dancer and lead vocal. Ningning is the main vocalist. I forgot if ningning is part or the dancer line or not.

Next level is one of the biggest hits in the kpop scene this year. Since it’s release it’s still in the top 10 ranking on Melon and the dance is literally a trend in Korea and amongst idols. Also one of my favourite songs of the year because it’s so catchy and fun, aespa is really bringing back the uniqueness that kpop had before it become so generic and westernised.

SM does have a lot of trending setting artists, but the groups they took the most risks with were SHINee and f(x). They were ahead of the game ALL THE TIME. Everything house inspired can be traced back to them. SHINee started the dance practice trend and the concept album trilogies.
