Mike I like ur teaching on cakewalk by bandlabs I have always been a cubase fan but since finding your channel I have switched to cakewalk and that ample sounds guitar plug-in the free versiion helped me as I had an arm injury a few years ago... So can't play guitar like I used to but to achieve a similar result on the vst so very pleased about that..and as I subscribed I can see ur vids on record mix and release a song .. I looking so forward to following that tutorial ..but duty calls I am a stage engineer we seem to have got busy after covid and for those reading this ...cakewalk very good with system resources... and absolutely a defo to try .. and for free that is awesome ..

Great to see another one of these nuts and bolts explainers (in a Cakewalk context). Even when you know the punchline already, it's still a wonderful way to cement one's understanding of what's really going on.

Takes me back when I was first learning this stuff. Used busses in this exact way, but also for another reason, limited cpu power. Careful bus set up for effects and freezing made it possible to work on large amount of tracks and have a better overview.

I'm curious: once you created the G Bus, you no longer needed to move the fader on the original. Doesn't the pre/post fader become irrelevant at that point?
@caesarbear
@caesarbear 2 жыл бұрын
If the goal is only a fade out like in the last example then sure you don't need to turn on the pre fade. However if you want control over the mix for other purposes, say if you want to fade to a 100% wet effect, then you can use the pre fader option.

I've done such kind of stuff but BLUE for guitar? No way, Sir! Blue is for Bass in my book, 'cause they share a "b" 😁

No no! Bass is orange. It's very 'round' sounding.

I usually make my bass blue and guitar either red orange or green depending on if it's a melody, arp, or chords.

@@koleslaw5678 Very well! I'm also using GREEN for Guitars (of course) except when there are none in a project. Then the Geyboards can have that color 😁

There's the "Brown Sound" a.k.a. "Hold Your Bad Horseys" apparently reserved for guitar (min. 6 strings) 🐴

Whats the difference between using a send and just adjusting the mix or dry/wet knobs on the reverb plugin?
@CreativeSauce
@CreativeSauce 2 жыл бұрын
A great question! Yes, you can use the mix knob, and use the plugin as an insert. The times when I use it as a send are: 1) When many instruments/vocals are using the same reverb or other effects. It's good on CPU resources, places those parts in a similar 'space', and means there is only one place to make adjustments. 2) When the reverb (or other effect) needs other processing. For example, we may want to EQ a reverb, or even compress a certain effect. I hope that helps!

Mike Mike SOS SOS. My project does not open. I asked a friend and he told me to press shift and open the project. He also told me that all the plugins will be deleted, which BTW happened. This is happening for the second time on the same project. Please help🙏🙏🙏🙏

Mike ......I don't get it ......I don't see the advantage of compression unless part of your signal is overdriving the channel.......i didn't really hear a change in you demonstration
@CreativeSauce
@CreativeSauce 2 жыл бұрын
Ah, this wasn't the best demonstration of sidechain compression, as I wanted to focus on the pre/post thing. But to explain... The point of sidechain compression is to create a more even sound. On the compressed channel, because it's so highly compressed, even the very quite parts, will be almost as loud as the loud parts. Blending this with the original signal, ensures we never get too quiet. But keeping it low in comparison to the original, ensures we still maintain dynamics. I used a fade out to zero in the video - which reduced the compression in post mode. In reality, you wouldn't care or notice in real life. However, when making more slight adjustments, say from a verse to a chorus, you DO still want to maintain that balance between the plain, and compressed channels.
@boonkeys719
@boonkeys719 2 жыл бұрын
@@CreativeSauce The other option to volume levels if now all of a sudden you have part of the track that is to quiet is to use an automation lane....correct? I know I have a lot to learn still and I've been doing this for a while......But I'm kind of old school and am sometimes impatient and it sounds good enough to me......I'm done and will drive myself crazy trying to make it perfect. But I will take to heart what you said in the video and play around with it.
