@@malcolmmarshall4371 A lot of the city and county stations are like what you described here. Quite a few of our stations have different buildings like a barracks, mess hall, and engine bays. If you want to have some fun you can look up 15670 Monterey Street Morgan Hill CA on google maps and look at the satellite view to see the layout of the station. Google's image is old as the tree is gone and the driveways have been repaved.

The sworn peace officer status must explain why I've seen some Cal Fire units (including some BC rigs) with blue lights in their light bars. In California, only law enforcement vehicles are allowed blue lights.

I think Michigan has the same thing about LE getting blue. The volunteers there can have code 3 equipment on their personal vehicles and I know that blue was strictly forbidden. At the time you could get in a good bit of trouble just having a blue light in your trunk.

Hello, The Dozer was sent because we had a report of a vegetation fire . Cal Fire will start a pretty large response straight away because a lot of our calls are quite far away and they would rather get everyone rolling and cancel the resources that are not needed if the fire turns out to be nothing. Cal Fire is the moniker for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, they are the State of California's Fire Department. Yes, we only send they on wildland or what we call vegetation fires.

South Santa Clara County Fire Protection District has a contract with Cal Fire to staff their engines as well as provide maintenance. This is typical as a lot of places will contract with Cal Fire for some level of fire protection, whether it be a single engine or entire fire protection for an area like a city.

Yes that is part of the training received getting certified to drive code 3. However. in compliance to CVC 21806 the driver of every other vehicle shall yield the right-of-way and shall immediately drive to the right-hand edge or curb of the highway, clear of any intersection, and thereupon shall stop and remain stopped until the authorized emergency vehicle has passed. The fine is right around $490.

It varies from place to place. I can't comment on how fast they get out the door because I don't feel it is my place to do so.

Cameron Mcghee most departments are 60 seconds to 90 seconds once the tones drop.

You can't judge the entire USA from one video you see. There is 50 states and within those 50 states there is several hundred separate county municipalities numbering thousands of departments per state. Some are within the city, others in the outskirts, others in the country. It varies too much to measure. NFPA recommends departments respond to 90 percent of calls in 4 minutes. Some stations can take 3-4 minutes to arrive on scene, others 15+ minutes - especially in rural areas, which is why volunteer departments are created at midway points to fill in the slack.

You have to allow time for the apparatus crews to board the apparatus, and for the air brake compressors to fill the air brake reservoirs. Otherwise, you will have no brakes, which is not good if you need to slow down or stop!

To be honest, I have no idea why that stop sign is there. It is the only fire station I have ever seen with a stop sign at the end of the driveway. Have you ever seen a stop sign at the end of an active fire station driveway? Let me know.

It's because the driveway is attached to an intersection and the station is set so far back it constitutes as a roadway. Many businesses set back from the road with long driveways have a stop sign exiting their property.
