Hi Tasha, as everyone has stated lots of memories associated w/this song. My mom also used to sing it to Dad. This song and "The Lord Knows I'm Drinking" ( which you reacted to a few weeks ago) were Cals only No. 1 hits "Country Bumpkin" won song of the year in 1974 from both the ACM & CMA. Anyway great song about the cycle of life so thank you for the reaction.

A country standard. One thing I was surprised that they played the word breast on the radio in the early 70s

I've never heard it before...sounds like she was using it as a term of endearment!

She was, it was her nickname for him.

I kinda agree w/Tasha! I don't think it was meant as a term of endearment in the beginning but it came to be one.

You should do a reaction to DeFord Bailey. He was the first African American country music star. As a harmonica player, he's one of my heroes!!
@highnrising2 жыл бұрын
This song was written almost as a joke. Story is that the songwriter, whose name was Don Wayne, was at his publisher's office in the early '70s and he heard two executives talking by the elevator and saying, "We have to get away from this country bumpkin stuff. Nobody wants to hear that." So he got p'd off and went home an wrote a song called "Country Bumpkin." And it became the biggest country song of the year.

"It was just a short year later in a bed of joy-filled tears yet death-like pain Into this wondrous world of many wonders one more wonder came That same woman's face was wrapped up In a raptured look of love and tenderness As she marveled at the soft and warm and cuddly boy-child feeding at her breast" It's not "dirty", but I'm still surprised that such a real take on childbirth (the agony and the love) made it onto radio.

Wow!! I was only joking when I commented on one of y'all's recent videos asking if y'all had been spying on me (I had sent that song to my gal not long before y'all's reaction was posted). Y'all might not believe this, but I sent this exact song (albeit the lyric version of this video) to my gal yesterday because she's from Atlanta and I'm from the sticks...and the word 'bumpkin' always cracks me up lol This is beginning to get a bit strange, you guys...something odd is afoot at the Circle K haha 😬😆
