Afterwards I started making efforts to do more with my parents, scared of having a similar situation some time in the future. (noticing how much you missed when it's already too late)

I love your reactions so much! Just a small misunderstanding that Aabria later clarified: she was never gonna force the city to go anywhere, that's not her job or her decision anyway. She was just taking this once in a century opportunity to build a road, and they could later decide when and if to use it. That's why she called it a gift. (It still doesn't excuse what she did to the tree out of desperation, hubris, and grief, but there's also no reason to add more sins to her plate 😅)

7:17 if you cast a spell first, bonus action or otherwise, the only other thing you can is use is a cantrip in terms of magical abilities. Unless, you multi class into fighter and use your action surge to cast 2 spells. Or you have a racial bonus that allows you to misty step like Elderon elves. Or your subclass allows it, tho I’m unaware which subclasses allow it. Or your dm is being nice.
@elbruces2 жыл бұрын
Since we're being precise, Eladrin don't have a racial ability that allows them to cast Misty Step, they have a Fey Step ability which does the exact same thing but doesn't count as a spell at all. I only mention this because some races do get racial abilities to "cast" a particular spell, which would still be subject to those rules. Drow using Faerie Fire once they're 3rd level, for example; they get it for being Drow, but they're still casting a spell.
@Desdemona-XI2 жыл бұрын
To my knowledge no subclasses allow it. Its a fixxed rule of 5e. Even sorcerer quickened spells are subject to this rule. However in critical role campaign 1 this was allowed by Matt up to level 2 spells instead of cantrips as the characters were ported from pathfinder which doesnt have the same limitations. But the rule was enforced properly in campaigns 2 and beyond. If you're allowed to do that in game your DM is being *extremely* generous. As that opens up some very brutal combos for casters, especially sorcerers and heavily tilts game balance right off the chart

@Wyatt Frye I don't think you know what the word "psychopath" means. Yeah, her friend died (?) from it, but he was a willing volunteer, a soldier who understood every risk factor they were possibly aware of. We send astronauts into space, and many of them have actually died. And then we do it again. So is NASA a flat-out villain, no nuance involved? From everything she knew, it should have worked. So this next time she sent a "toy" through instead of a person. In NASA terms, she moved from human to drone launches. That's not a villain. I'm guessing that it makes you feel morally superior to assign absolute black/white blame to characters in stories and to say so on the internet, but I'm here to tell you that you're not demonstrating that you're a better person here. You're not morally good for being unable to see that she's very different from a cartoon villain. Nobody will think you are a good person for saying that she is. So don't.

I agree, I wish they'd post close-ups of the mini's. This is another thing that Dimension20 has always been really good at, that CR needs to start doing. Here's hoping the cross-pollination of ideas (in addition to people) boosts both channels. I kinda feel like Brennan didn't expect someone to pull a Calamity-releasing move in episode 3, he was probably hoping they'd do that next episode. Which means he'll have to come up with even more crazy for the 4th episode. I can't imagine anyone hating on any of the players involved, every one of them is firing on all cylinders here... 1) I love that since Brennan highlighted Cerrit's dad-ness, as soon as things got too hot, Travis bugged out to beeline straight for protecting his children. Fuck splitting the party, he's got a more important mission now. Also that kinda feels like what Travis would do in that situation, not just his character, which is all the awww. 2) Sam is inserting these beautiful little RP touches here and there, which are bittersweet in and of themselves, but even more so knowing how it'll all end up. Also his usual little comic asides, but less so. Overall, Loquacious pulls at the heartstrings more than he tickles the funny-bone. Which is a first from what I've seen of Sam's characters (including all the one-shots). 3) Laerryn is trying to make her project happen with all the passion she can muster, which she's narratively built up and earned. I feel like Aabria is doing the only allowable example of "that's what my character would do." 4) Marisha is all in. Sure her character is a seeker of knowledge, but Patia will risk (maybe kill) herself and anyone else just to make Brennan drop more lore and exposition. Okay, that's the only other allowable example of "it's what my character would do." In fact, I wish I could have seen even more of those two wizard ladies tackling things together before all the shit hit all the fans, because they're such team goals. 5) 90% of the time, Lou is all about the good times, but when he drops the hammer into serious RP, he drops it *hard.* And he did it no less than twice in this episode, which has never happened before. Also, it was funny watching Nydus realize he'd started a PvP fight that he didn't have the heart to finish. 6) Luis is just lovely as always. No notes. Zerxus wears his heart on his sleeve, the world be damned (literally). It was also a lot of fun this episode watching him show off what a level-14 paladin can do, dropping 100+ damage turns on bitches. I really do hope we get to see Luis in more live-stream D&D shows after this.

Well not really, if she didn't destroy the tree it wouldn't have happened. Now WE know that the Calamity is inevitable because this is a prequel but that logic is based on Meta knowledge and doesn't track for in universe beings with rational minds and thoughts. This is the version of events that is now locked in, if she didn't do it, someone else would have, but only because the Calamity has to happen because this is a prequel. In this "Alternate" Universe of Exandria if you will, where the future isn't set in stone, her actions actually do matter, and she IS the problem and the Calamity could have been prevented if she had just stopped for a minute. Now Brennan just HAD to stab her ex husband because he's a button pusher lol, so I can't fully blame her at that specific moment, but I can blame her before that for not being rational and being extremely selfish and causing the Calamity. If she could have just waited for 5 seconds and let them investigate the tree then she wouldn't have caused the Calamity. If she hadn't destroyed the tree, then the Calamity still might not have succeeded. (Of course in this version of the story, then something ELSE would happen, someone else's buttons would get pushed and the Calamity would begin, but this being a prequel and therefore somewhat set in stone does not erase her responsibility for being the one to kick off the Calamity.)
@natalyiatimoshenkova12732 жыл бұрын
@@mayaenglish5424 The point about Laeryn not "causing" the Calamity is important I think - the plan for taking out the Tree didn't *count* on her casting Blight on it. As it happens, hers was the straw that tipped things over the edge - but if she'd not done so, there were other plans afoot. What she *did* do was (at least potentially) squander a chance to either prevent/postpone the Calamity in this "version" of Exandria or - more likely - possibly save Avalir by using the Leywright to shift the city. I suppose it's *possible* that could still happen, but it seems unlikely. I wouldn't "blame" her for the Calamity, but I would "blame" her for being so blinded by pride and ambition that she didn't see the chance to save at least something from the coming disaster and instead just made things worse.

@@AshEshyr Or Brennan would have had it happen through some other means. We knew going in that the Calamity was going to happen, one way or another. He just put the players in a room full of big red buttons and Aabria went first.

Its actually important to note that this isnt the entire calamity, its just one place at the beginning, while this is happening, betrayer gods are striking all over the world. The best potential result would be sparing avalir from the initial wave of destruction. But as the calamity raged on for two centuries, they doubtfully would've been able to save it for long. And the majority of the calamity would have happened without avalir at all, though the tree played a large role in shoring up the defenses. It also would have been prime target for every cultist in the world

Someone had to start the apocalypse, otherwise there would be no story. No redemption. Characters without flaws aren’t interesting. I loved the characters because they felt real for the era and location they were in. They were arrogant, selfish, liars and manipulators. They showed the viewer WHY the apocalypse was warranted during that time. They over reached and we’re blind to that fact, and so what followed made perfect sense. Calamity.

Not sure how you condensed this one into just 30 minutes.
