I got 3 new plants today. ... a calathea ornata, calathea medallion and English ivy. I bought a calathea maranta around 8 months ago and oh boy she was a beauty...until....last week were I read giving your plants water and baking soda gave them a boost. I woke up the next day and my gorgeous maranta was all blotchy from the baking soda, yellowing and curling leaves and all the leaves were dropping and limp. I was so gutted so to cheer myself up I went and got all those today. Calatheas are the most beautiful undoubtably but they are picky. I live in Scotland so I have to run 2 humidifiers along with a pebble tray and daily misting. The damaged calathea is in time out, I’ve took off all the damaged leaves so hopefully it will recuperate and come back ever stronger.

Another beautiful new Calathea, although it looks different from the traditional medallion. I wonder if the care will be similar. Oh don't get me started on new pots! I always get my terracotta and cement pots from one of 2 nurseries that specialize in unique pots. Well, last month I went to the first one, which normally has hundreds of pots - they hand 1 left!! Then I went to the second that also carries ceramic and they had no ceramic and about 20% of their usual inventory of cement. I couldn't even order from Ikea because their website kept crashing or telling me that there were no times available for pick up (they refused to ship). Shopping during a pandemic...

The fuschia in the new medallion looks so pretty. Definitely would love to know more about it once there’s more information available. Addy, I was wondering you can give me some advice on my Calathea Roseopicta “Rosy”. I think I might have recently overwatered it and it has been looking so droopy and sad. I was unsure of what to do so I repotted and found that lining in the pot holding together it’s roots. I repotted but didn’t water it but it still looking very sad, should I water it? I am not sure what to do.

I have had SO many issues from those grow pouches 😔 I've never seen them cut up both sides, always intact and with a mess to pick apart inside. Even when they grow through with roots there has been a mass of compacted mush and a tight root ball inside. I always pick them off bit by bit and it has become one of my least favorite things to find when I buy a plant.

Ooh what a pretty lil plant! Yes, I mostly like to use clay pots and they are hard to find in the smaller sizes. Our local nursery has plenty of ceramic pots though.

Yes, it did looks like a hybrid between Rosy & original Medallion. This V2 just arrived into Malaysia's market, along with Crimson X (crimson green). Ordered from Shopee. Really looking forward to it. Great content Addy! 😉

Hello Andy You are my go 2 for studying these plants. I have about 50 now. I have the New Medallion that are as small as yours. I don't have the regular Medallion green leaf on mine as yet. Have you found out anything on these yet? Mine come from south Florida and was told even the growers don't know the names. Enjoy your information, keep it up.

50!? That is impressive! Mine have really started to look different as they mature. Right now, I have very few leaves that look like a traditional medallion. I'll get some updated footage of it for the next video so you can see what it's looking like now. However, I haven't found any updated information on it either. I certainly haven't seen a patent so I don't know if anyone has studied the changes enough to know if it's a distinct cultivar or not.

I bought a medallion 2 about a month ago. It was list as Calathea Pink Rare. Since then I was not able to find any others like it. So glad that you were able to solve my mystery calathea. 🍃 In regards to pots.....I think that we are all in the same 🚢. When I bought my staghorn fern from a nursery. I ask if I could buy a 2 to 2 1/2 gal pot. Sorry, we need them for our own use....we don't have very many. So I believe it will be like this until next spring?! 🌼

@@AddyBeez I've noticed mine growing faster since I began misting them every morning. Distilled water of course. However I only water them deeply once a week. Do you have a way I could send you a pm? I had a few questions id like to ask you if I could.

Big box stores in my area have none or very limited selection of terra cotta pots and saucers. Local nurseries even are out of smaller terra cotta pots and saucers. Could be COVID caused, just remembered Italy had that BIG COVID hut down earlier. Looked at my terra cotta and most is stamped Made in Italy.

Can you say ur potting mix for calathea,
@AddyBeez2 жыл бұрын
Yes! Right now I am using Black Gold amended with perlite. The perlite takes up between 25-45% usually (I've gotten really bad about measuring these days).
