Monograph in which I describe calcium chloride and carry out several experiments with said salt.
Calcium chloride, with the chemical formula CaCl2, is an inorganic compound, characterized by its white crystalline appearance at room temperature and its high solubility in water. It is typically produced by neutralizing hydrochloric acid with calcium hydroxide.
Encountered commonly as a hydrated solid, its generic formula is CaCl2·nH2O, where n can vary, including 0, 1, 2, 4, and 6. These hydrated forms find extensive use in de-icing and dust control applications. The anhydrous salt's hygroscopic and deliquescent properties make it valuable as a desiccant.
