Hi Gary, I am looking for a tutorial ranking a list of names in which each name has two data points. Data point A is best if the number is high. Data point B is best if the number is low. Is there a function or process in Numbers to rank the list of names combining varying criteria (high / low) as noted above. Thanks.

Just create another column with a formula in it that computes a ranking number. Like if the values are from 1 to 100 for each, then take A and add 100-B or whatever constitutes the ranking for this. Then sort by that new column,

Automatically? No easy way to do that. You'd have to build some things. Copy and paste will work in most cases though to make it easy.

Hi there! I just wanted to say that your tutorial videos on using Numbers are incredibly informative, and you explain everything so clearly-especially for beginners like me. If you don’t mind, I could use some help. I have the total number of appointments each of my employees has taken this month and their average appointment duration. I’m struggling to figure out a formula to calculate their individual average score using these numbers, specifically to figure out their total average using 60 minutes. Could you provide some clarity on what formula I should use with these three numbers? I hope I’ve explained this clearly enough for you to understand what I’m asking.

It would come down to design. Why do those rows have a blank cell in that column? Think about that and maybe redesign it or sort first and then only rank the rows with a value in that column.

Thanks, Gary. If say those three all end up at rank 5, but I would want the next one after them to be labeled rank 6, instead of 8, how would I go about that?

Not easy to do. That also doesn't make any sense from a ranking perspective. I you are 8th, you don't get to be 6th just because there were ties ahead of you. I guess you could do it with some complex formulas looking at the row before and only adding one if it is not a tie. Would need to be sorted though.

@@macmost Aww too bad there is no easy function for that. Thanks. You are right, in terms of absolute rank. Would make sense if you look at it from a perspective of 'I got the 6th best score in a given test' or 6th best time in a race or something along those lines, you get the point.

@@macmost Comparing item prices. Say item A costs 100$. B,C and D all come in at 90$ and E is 80$. E sits at the 3rd highest price in the market. (It is in this example still ranked the 5th most expensive item, but the price is still the 3rd highest. I wanna rank the price instead of the item as there are multiple items for almost every price tag.). Sorry if this is confusing to you.

Not sure what you are dealing with. If you can't find files, search for them. If you think you deleted some files, look in the Trash for them or recover them from your backup.

Hello, thank you for this video. Learning a lot. Would you explaine the other formulers too? I have some difficulty with a sheet. I have a sheet where I got the income in with dates. Now I want to put the value of that sheet in a different sheet in a Bankboek sheet. So on a specific date there is the amount. Hope you know what I mean 🥹🥹🥹. I got a formuler with lookup and that works, but when I copy that I got some values in dates that I haven’t filled in yet. So when I copy the file into a cell where I put in the date and value it works. But if you don’t know what I mean because I explained it not right then it’s oke 😀😀. I will keep on trying.

Not pertinent to this video, but pertinent to your channel: 1. In Contacts, there is a label ("iPhone," "Work," "Home," etc) in front of each telephone number. Click on the label and one of the options you have is to "Show in Large Type." Select that, and the Mac displays a banner that is as wide as the screen showing the telephone number. This is convenient if you are looking up a phone number on the Mac and using a desk set to place the call. 2. If you are looking at an icon for a document or application in a folder, double-click opens the item. Option double-click opens the item and simultaneously closes its folder.

Another sort of ancillary formula is LARGE and SMALL. Right off the top of my head I can't remember why I couldn't get RANK to work, but; both of the other ones have bailed me out on several occasions.
