How well you breath( take air in and out without pause and deep) plus multiple other factors like how well you can stay relaxed, and efficientancy of technique in what you are doing will win out over the person with the highest V02 if that person doesn't have those other qualities

At age 72, with a calculated and actual max heart rate of 158 and a resting heart rate of 55, and using your formulas, my relative VO2max calculates to be 43.8. In 1985, 35 years ago at age 37, my VO2max was measured on the treadmill in the lab as 47.3. Based on other tests such as 12 minute run time I estimate my VO2max is currently (at age 72) in the 25-30 range. This decline is consistent with a decline in VO2max with aging 35 years. So for me, these formulas seem to be very inaccurate. Also my weight at age 37 and age 72 are are nearly the same at 162 pounds. When I did the test at age 37, I was considered in excellent fitness category (for non athlete). At age 72 I consider myself to be at above average fitness for my age (but NOT at VO2max of 43.8).

I doubt this is an accurate method. When I measure my VO2max on a home trainer (Matrix) with a Cooper test, my VO2max is 32.20. But with this formula, my VO2max would be 42.53. Big difference!

Good explanation, thank you. For a more accurate measurement, one can buy a heart rate monitor (at around 30 Euro), and measure exact resting HR as well as Max HR and then use the formulas ...

Hello, I'm still very overweight at 85.5kgs and my 10% body fat weight is 70.5kgs (which I hope to reach by year end).My cycling ftp is 307: Will my weight reduction of 21% result in an ftp increase of 21% (ie to 371)? Or will I get no ftp increase at all or what percentage if any studies have been done,please?

One question. When's the best way to determine your RHR? based on my observation, my RHR on the evening is occasionally lower than in the afternoon. My RHR on the afternoon is around 60-ish bpm, while on the evening it can be around 50-ish (I'm wearing a garmin watch so i can constantly check my HR). Thanks!

RHR is best measured in the morning right after you wake up. It's also the lowest your HR will be all day. Just keep a stopwatch on the nightstand and measure while you're still lying down.

How reliable is this method? Mhr is 177 Rhr is 44 Vo2 max 61 I’m a big boy who runs and trains 250lbs 43 years old. Clocking 10 or more miles a week. For last 4 years

This is an indication. In a sportslab you will find more secure measurements. He mentioned it at 4:00 onwards.

if i use the forumla 220 - 30yrs of age, i get 190 MHR there is two different calculations how is that possible to get 187 there will be to different MHR

Why is the answer 4800? When Vo2 max number are 40 to 85 for average to elite? is that an milliliter/liter issue? … Long math explanation then a number that is not comparable

At around 8:00, I have the relative VO2, which is 48 mL/min/kg. The values of VO2 reported are relative VO2 in which they account for the person's mass.

As VO2 Max is only really relevant to athletes, why would anyone who wants to know their VO2 Max not want to determine their max heart rate properly, via exercise?

It's so funny, my real MHR is 190 and RHR 49, by calculation its 59!! While my actual is 44(weight 94kg). I don't understand then what is the point of this formula? Can someone explain please? Question 2: vo2max is mil/min/kg..ao where's the weight in equation?

@@SpeedBoosted136 oh, so that's makes sense. This formulas are usually for men with 70 kg of bodyweight.

Estimating VO2 max, not "calculating". My measured MHR is 193, but the estimation gives me only 181. Also my RHR varies every day, typically higher on or just after a training day. If I use my best-ever values vs the worst-case predicted values in these formulae, it gives me a VO2 max of 46-59. That is a very large range. My actual measured VO2 max is somewhere in between, but it's not in the middle of those numbers. Also with increased training my MHR has never gone up and my RHR has hardly gone down, but my VO2 max has certainly increased due to adaptations for oxygen uptake.
