In this video, we learn how to calculate the wavelength of a light wave from a known wave frequency. Update: Units would be in meters not Hz.

why is the answer in Hz if what we are looking for is the wavelength?

Hello ZM, thanks for the question. At first glance the units of "J" for the stated frequency should be "hz" for hertz. Given this change, to calculate the wavelength, we take the speed of light (3.0E8 m/s) and divide it by the stated frequency (4.909E-19 Hz). This should give you a wavelength of 6.11E26 meters. Hello Jm, use the equation "C= wavelength * frequency." Divide C by the frequency and you should get "3.0E8 / 3.0 E9" which is 1.0E-1 wavelength.

What is the wavelength of a wave with frequency of 4.28 GHz?

Hello Diya, The process is the same as in the video, but you will first need to convert the Gigahertz (GHz) to Hertz (Hz). The conversion is 1E9 hertz per giga so take 4.28 and multiply it by the 1E9, then plug the value into the wavelength equation with the speed of light to arrive at your answer. Should be about 7.00E-2 meters. Best wishes!

what happened to the 10 to the 8 and 10 to the 5th?

Hello. When you plug the values into the calculator they 10E8 and the 10E5 end cancelling each other by way of subtraction of exponents. If we just look at the "8" and the "5" we see that 8 minus 5 will give us 3. This means our answer will have significant digits above 1. Looking at the answer, we see that 870. does in fact have 3 significant figures. Best wishes.

Hello, You would use the C = wavelength * freq equation. Derive the new equation for freq (f = C / wavelength), plug the values in and your freq. should be 1E6 hz.
