Excellent! Simple to follow..as an 71 yr old "student pilot" I need all the help I can get. YOU TUBE is a great source of pilot training information. It is a great follow up to any ground school or even flight training event. These videos allow you to observe,stop and think and absorb. They make the learning process a lot easier!!!! Thank you Jason and others for taking the time and effort to put these invaluable tools together.....Pete Warenski

....Thank you, Jason, for this interesting, and long needed review of this kind of problem solving! IMHO: ...Though you didn't specify, or clarify it, I will assume that the chart showing the aircraft's specific "Center of Gravity Moment Envelope", MUST be established and provided by, the particular aircraft manufacturer, for that specific model of aircraft, and, that it is to by abided by, strictly, without any allowance for "being close enough", and if in doubt, that it is the PILOT'S responsibility to KNOW if that flight is operating WITHIN the "SAFE" envelope!...?!.... If the pilot weight 180, and the rear passenger 204 LB moved to the front prior to landing, the total weight is 2690 LB and the total M/100 2260 just prior to the passenger moving and they post figure 10.9 found in the pilot handbook of aeronautical knowledge Thanks Oz

So what have we learned? A great explanation of how to do the sums. But I am curious as to what they mean. Basically you end up with 2 numbers: loaded weight and loaded moment. Don't we want to know the distance between centre of gravity and centre of pressure, or the torque effect between the two?
@larryehrlich87027 жыл бұрын
As a general rule of thumb for single engine aircraft, fuel burn will parallel the aft cg 'Moment/1000' line. Do a few samples with full fuel, half fuel and a 45 minute fuel reserve to prove this to yourself. Remember the old saying...the only time you have too much fuel is when you are on fire! When I use to fly MD-11's we could put 13,400# of fuel in our tail tanks (horizontal stabilizer fuel tanks). Remember the best fuel efficieny is with an aft CG (within the aft limit)!

Good video. I know how to calculate weight and balance. What I would like to know is how to "read" those beautiful FAA "Airplane Weight and Balance Tables" found on the FAA-CT-8080-H2 publication. "move to the right, go down straight, read the line horizontal to the rightc come back to the kind, read the thing and there you have it! so smart and easy to do it! for every table there's a procedure to follow. Do you have a video explaining how to read the FAA figures? starts with figure 32-35, then 41-46, 53 and 67. Another set are the Landing Distance Graph figures: 37, 39, 40 and 72. I just want to know how to use the tables. Thanks

I would like to hear your opnion on a weight & balance question. Let's assume that you have a long and heavy piece of steel to Transport. One end of the steel is fairly light, and the other end is heavy. You can load it either way and be with in W & B limits. You can load it for a forward CG or you can load it for an aft cg...either way you are within the C G Limits. Please tell me which way you would load it for a very long flight that will allow you to land with 45 minutes remaining on you VFR flight. Please explain your reasons or thoughts...every one is invited!!! Blue Sky's.
