Hey, partially unrelated but I wanted to let you know that I'm coming from nearly a decade being out of school having believed I'd never be good at any form of learning. Particularly math. Through a lot of good people and my own realization and willingness to change, I've learned this isn't true. I'm here facing my dreaded fear from high school with a willingness to learn for the sake of bettering myself and one day utilizing this and much more in any way that'll help me and others one day. It's never too late to tear up your script and start a new path. Don't lock yourself to a belief that "you're only this good/bad at this thing. This is how it'll be, it'll never change". That's only true if you let that belief bind you. Study and work hard for you and your values, grow and find your happiness people because it's possible.

(I’m sorry, I didn’t think this comment would get so long. I also typed this on my phone, so I’m sorry about the grammar) Your comment sums me up perfectly. I’m so sad I never actually “applied myself” like my teachers said. Calculus isn’t nearly as bad as I was afraid of. I was sick a lot as a kid so I missed a bunch of school. Missing class + crazy bad ADHD means math was horrible for me my entire life. I did poorly in school because I didn’t care about it, and graduated high school in 2012 with a C average, and managed to graduate without even passing Algebra 1 (my school offered alternative math credits that were “hard” but didn’t actually require math, it was more like IQ tests and puzzle solving). After graduation, I started a business, got into investing, and worked a “normal” job all at the same time, and retired super young last May (exactly one year ago next week). I still felt really unfulfilled and wanted to see what my life would be like if I had a do-over. So, in the last year I went to college, and I tried my best for once. I took so many courses that I’ll already be finished with my associates by the end of this summer, and I’m hoping to transfer to a good school and study economics. I’ve managed to maintain a perfect 4.0 this entire time too. But the biggest surprise, and the thing I’m most proud of, is that I wanted to learn math, so I started Khan Academy last summer from the very begging at 2nd grade. I refused to move on until I had 100% on everything, including a refresher of every grade I already passed, once a month. Pathetically, I thought it was hard. BUT I’m here watching this video on Calculus after 12 months, so I guess it wasn’t hard enough to stop me. I’m much happier for it, and I think this process has improved me as a person. To anyone reading, I know not everyone can bail on their job or other responsibilities, but if you feel like you are missing something, this is probably it. If I can do it after decades of laziness and bad habits, never studying a single time in my whole life before a year ago, you can do it.

Big Quapa Gaming Hi. You're probably in school now. But the steps to calculus goes like 1)pre algebra 2) algebra 3) geometry 4) algebra ii 4.5) trigonometry 5) pre calculus 5.5) trigonometry 6) calculus 7)more calculus That's how it was for me, but I'm an honors student so my pace was faster. You may have to learn trig as its own class or maybe you'll learn it with your algebra Also if you are gonna need cs and calculus for your career, i suggest taking the AP csp class and csa if you live in usa. Also when you're ready take ap cal ab/bc. Physics should also be known if your career may need to model or simulate real world things. Good luck

You're a doctor and you don't know calculus? How do you know if you're giving the patients the right dosage when the limit approaches zero?

I’m seeing way more comments by adults making fun of kids being here and bragging about their smarts than actual kids being here

I am in a university calculus class this semester and i was too stubborn too take precalculus. I feel lost as im trying to prepare for class. I dont want to drop the class. Im trying to watch as many videos like this…this is a good video…subscribed and liked…but i still feel overwhelmed. Im also doing all the khan academy i can do. Is it even possible that i can be ready for this class in two weeks?

I was homeschooled my whole life, but now want to get into dentistry, and according to the internet, calculus is one of the maths I might have to take, but I've never done calculus, and I absolutely hated math growing up, so I'm scared out of my mind that I'm gonna be a moron when it comes to placement testing (I'm going to a community college) because the concept of calculus or pi was never actually put in my brain, so now I'm here, just trying to get a general grasp of it, because, as much as I hate math still, I want to be ahead of the game a little so I don't psyche myself out and quit when the homework gets a little too hard, or the tests throw me off. Anyway, thank you for coming to my Ted talk. Have a nice night

I do not have an extensive math background, as I had to drop out of high school. Can you recommend a curriculum that will provide the foundational knowledge needed to learn calculus? Thank you in advance.

Since Calculus has so many new ideas you can try and jump into it directly. I'd keep an algebra, or a pre-calculus book handy when some confusing calculations show up. Then you can brush up on the stuff you need. :^D

Good sir i loved you video, however some students have a low self esteem and so when you say calculus is "hard" they will believed it and they will make this an excuse and will not even try to understand this. god bless you Sara Muhammed

I dropped out in 8th grade, spent 14 years working dead end jobs, then got my GED. I went to college the following semester as someone who was only capable of doing basic math like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. I have never been a smart person if I’m being honest. I didn’t care to learn anything. But I passed all of my college classes, including calculus. It feels impossible, but it’s not. You can do it.

Correct me if im wrong, I had no idea about calculas, So baised on the explanation I've just heard calculas is mostly about trigonometry, geometry and physics combined.

So is Calculus similar to algebra, but more complex and does it deal with a lot of formulas?
