Caldwell Estate Mansion - Renfrewshire, Scotland - ABANDONED ASYLUM

The Caldwell Estate is near Lugton in Renfrewshire, about 30 minutes south/southwest of Glasgow. A great site to explore, with many smaller buildings as well as the big house. Be very mindful of the steep drops if you come here. Enjoy!

My Mother worked for quite a while at Caulwell House Mental Hospital. She taught the Downs Syndrome children their lines and the children performed these plays for the benefactor of the HospitalI believe my Mother mentioned a Mr Fortescue. She worked between here and Woodilee Hospital right up to the War years. She told me about USA troops billiting along the entrance to the House living in their tents. She told me because it was a small hospital they knew their patients well as they stayed there for years. My mpther's name was Evelyn Hume from Chryston, North Lanarkshire 1916 - 2010.
