There are no plans to close the line. This is a vital transport artery for those of us who live along the line. It’s always busy with locals and tourists, and I recommend you book a seat if you’re traveling during the summer months, although Scotland’s tourism is year round, these days.

Thank you for posting this glorious footage. Odd to feel nostalgic already about the mk 2/3 stock!

Great scenery, you have a good camera. I took this train 29 years earlier. Only I caught it from Glasgow Central, it went around the Glasgow area, then Springburn, Cowlairs then followed the route as normally taken from Queen St High Level. It makes sense to go via Low Level now.

I'll watch the full video when I've some time. Meanwhile, I'm thinking of doing Fort William in 2022. I know it's a long time to think about it but it's like when operators announce investment in New / refurbished trains - I plan for it to happen then. As regards accommodation, it's Edinburgh first next year (first trip to Scotland too) then Dundee in 2021 then Inverness / Thurso in one part of 2022 before Fort William in the other part of 2022. From Oxford, I can easily access the Caledonian Sleeper at Crewe by changing at Birmingham New Street or Stafford on the way to there (I'd arrive at Crewe around 22:35/23:00). I'm torn whether to go to Fort William in the morning and get there around 22:05 (with single tickets - 09:15 Oxford to Birmingham New Street, 11:15 to Glasgow Central then the shuttle bus to Queen Street before joining the 18:24 to Fort William. Trouble with that is you don't wanna be on a broken down train throughout the night. With the sleeper, however, there's a massive advantage - less overcrowding and you arrive at Fort William around 10:00. Given the earliest times you can enter your accommodation, I can afford to be up to 2 - 3 hours late at the worst case scenario (I'd still get lunch). Also with the sleeper there's the new Mark 5's!

Sadly...it seems tonight is the last night the mk2/3 sleeper will leave Fort William, after which Serco are shutting down the service for two weeks before it resumes with the mk5 stock. No more videos like this possible now.

I would suggest that CS Mount a view cam on the front of Class 73s and have a monitor in the sitting and lounge cars for passengers to view the wonderful countryside ahead! This is something done on the Blue Train of South Africa.
