Well done breaking some ScotRail rules 🤣 if they’d clean the windows, you wouldn’t have to do it. If there’s ONE train to have clean windows on ScotRail, it’s THIS one. In fact why not buy some cool panoramic carriages for such a stunning route? Fantastic video though Scott! I’m actually heading up to Mallaig in the morning to try get to the Small Isles.

They used to have an Observation Carriage on the Inverness to Kyle line for this very purpose. I don't know what happened to it. It was excellent for photo shoot or just enjoying the majestic views

Doing the Caledonian Sleeper in summer so that you can have breakfast going along the shores of Loch Lomond, following up with Fort William to Mallaig, must be one of the great train journeys of the world - maybe it's not as breathtakingly big as the Trans-Canada, but it's totally stunning in its variety. Always nice to consult the weather man and get a good day, of course.

I did that journey a couple of years ago on the Jacobite Express steam train. Then the coach took us to the base of the Glenfinnan viaduct to watch it return from Mallaig. Thanks for filming this video.

Hi Scott 😊 I have happy memories of doing that train journey in reverse, from Mallaig to Fort William, away back in January 1989, when I was a young man, on my first ever visit to Scotland. That was after having taken a ferry back to the Scottish mainland, from Armadale on the Isle of Skye 😊

Another great wee video 👍 , could you imagine making the old black and white movies on the Scotrail network , where the baddie ties the young woman to the rails , only for him to see the rail replacement bus always go past .

I haven't been on the Mallaig Extension since the late 1980s either, so this was a great reminder of the days when I'd stay overnight with friends in Hyndland so as to be able to catch the 6/6.30am train out of Queen Street to Mallaig.

Weather can screw stuff up. Back in '91 I took the ferry over to Skye (now a bridge), stayed a night in Portree, and hoped to go down to the south end of Skye to take a ferry to Mallaig. It was October, and the winds didn't let the ferry to cross to Mallaig. Had to go back to Kyle and take a bus down to Fort William. Then the little speeder train to Glasgow broke down. Lots of fun, and I missed everything.

A beautiful day out. Have held tickets for the Jacobite since 2020, sadly lockdown prevented travel. Same again with 2021 plus my health wasn't great so they renewed them again until 2022. Problems now with fuel rationing reported to be limiting us to 15 litres a week from April, the cost of the stuff if you can get it and the P&O debacle filling up all the Stena line ships, getting to top of Everest would be less fraught than travelling from NI to Fort William at minute! 😭 🤞🤞🤞here's hoping 🤞🤞🤞

@@Sierraomega1991 yes, spotted that on TV, hope to give it a try out, seems much shorter journey than the Scottish Citylink/Ulsterbus service. Have to confirm, but I think they pick up from our local park and ride.👍

I have been on this one and reckon it is the most scenic and also goes to the highest point in the UK. The one from Kyle of Lochaish to Inverness is worth doing as well. But Michael Palin reckons that Castlerock to Derry in Northern Ireland is the most spectacular train line in the world - I would not agree with him on that.

The Class 73 is along way from its former home on the Southern Region! Now fitted with a 1600hp MTU engine making it a Type 3 locomotive. I could imagine Donald and Douglas (from the Railway Series) working the Jacobite train in multiple:-)

Britain is the only Country in the World i know of where you buy an expensive train ticket only to be put on a bus when maintenence is taking place and where you can get a local bus to take you there at a fraction of the cost but, they won`t tell you that when you buy your overpriced ticket.
