It is a timed battle. No matter what difficulty you play on, it's a timed battle. He will leave after 3-4 minutes (Depending on difficulty) so you do not have to shoot him even 1 time. :)

Every confrontation you don't ever kill or hurt Pyramid Head. The first time you see him James empties a magazine into him and all PH does is look in the closet and leaves. 2nd time, you run around until the siren sounds which is PH's cue to leave. 3rd time, you run away from him and duck into an elevator while he "kills" Maria. 4th time, you again run away from him until you get to the ladder and escape. 5th time you run around until both PH's get bored and impale themselves on their spears.
