Great and informative video! I've milked cows and goats several seasons of my life but never calf shared. I'll now have another option in my arsenal. Thank you!

Thanks for the video. Foremilk is what you were looking for :-) Speaking of seasons, a video on the seasonality of milking a cow (like fall is best to make butter, and spring milk for making cheese and so on) would be great if you would be interested in that. Thanks again!

This had so many useful tips! I have my first jersey and and a 3&1/2 month old who is so aggressive after the morning milking because I have just started penning her at night at 3 month mark. She won’t take a bottle or bucket of milk or eat her calf grain (she loves her hay and pen) but even her mom is trying to get away from her in the morning because she’s so rough. I think I’ll try keeping her penned for a few hours after mom gets milked so she can build up her supply because I’m already leaving the back tears for her or I’m going to wean her with a Quiet Wean for a few hours after she gets back with mom. Thanks for the tip on waiting for a bit. Also I would love a video if you haven’t done one on how you eventually wean a calf shared heifer if you’re going to keep her. My girls will always be together so I’m wondering how to best make sure mom gets her break and calf weans off entirely.

This is such an informative video, one of the best! Why must you keep a calf drinking as much as they can when they are only grass fed? Thanks.

Thank you! Sorry can you rephrase the question, I’m not sure I understand. Do you mean why does still drink a lot of milk when they start eating grass? Thanks:)

At what point can we separate the calf from Mom? Our calf just calved last Saturday and I have been putting her on the stand. She lets me touch and wash her udder but not a thing comes out of her udder.
