These new light rail vehicles look very sleek and modern, I must say the interior is very spacious and a bit luxurious too.

I really like the new cars other than the plastic seats. I like the fuzzy seats we have in Toronto and Vancouver.
@DredWolfster8 жыл бұрын
Ideally, there would be some sort of gating between the coupled LRV units for high floor LRT train service with raised platforms for safety reasons. Although there is some high floor light rail infrastructure in place here and there, it is exciting to see that Edmonton will be receiving a low floor light rail line, perhaps Vancouver and Montreal could also see low floor light rail service set up as well. Light rail expansion is spreading fast here in Ontario, with construction currently underway in Toronto, Kitchener and Ottawa; Hamilton and Mississauga will see light rail construction work commence in 2019..

Arghhh they still make that annoying high-pitched whining sound when braking like the SD-160s. Is there no way to quiet down that DC/AC conversion?
@jamesshanks26147 жыл бұрын
Certainly, we could use the old fashioned design controller that was designed in 1930 that works very reliably but isn't as smooth as the modern chopper controllers. If the noise bothers you that much in just over 2 months you won't notice it anymore. Your like the family that moved in next door, we are 2 blocks from the central firehouse that has a hose tower to dry out the 50 foot sections of fire hose and has a very loud air horn on each side of the tower to call out the box number. Like my family the first time it called out a box at 3AM we all woke up. The new neighbors were not convinced they would become accustomed to the horns at the firehouse and demanded the fire department cease and desist. 9 weeks later they pulled their complaint as they as we told them became accustomed to the horns. You too will eventually put the sound of the choppers on the new cars in the background noises the brain does with all everyday sounds it normally hears.

But the elephant in the room remains...at some point Calgary needs to ditch the streetcar trolley service and get a proper metro with full dedicated right of way. 7th ave is the weakest link in the chain but it happens in several spots. A car hits a train somewhere or there are problems downtown and the entire system is paralyzed...it happens far too often and sooner or later, the city will need to realize that the train needs its own right of way. I never really cared for the guy, but I agreed with the late Toronto mayor Rob Ford when he said world class cities don't build LRTs, they build subways. Being from Vancouver myself, I fully agree. C'mon Calgary...time to grow up!
@FastCarsNoRules2208 жыл бұрын
I agree, roads aren't for trains, roads are for cars and cars only. They should make the train system similar to the MRT in Singapore, either make elevated tracks on bridges, or go underground. They should also build platform screen doors at the train stations so that no one would accidentally fall onto the train tracks.
@chicagocarless7 жыл бұрын
Calgary has always had a plan to eventually put the transit mall stations underground. In fact, there are small parts of tunnel already built as part of third-party developments. The trigger for relocating the stations will be when the existing system can no longer keep up with ridership and regional growth--which would mean riders left behind at stations during rush hours, extensive system delays, and extensive rush-hour traffic delays downtown as CTrains overload the transit mall. That point has not been reached yet, and probably won't be reached until well after the Green Line opens.
@mrrobot59635 жыл бұрын
But Toronto is already building an lrt. The good part is that most of it is underground and automated in that underground part as well
@mrrobot59635 жыл бұрын
@@FastCarsNoRules220 But the problem is that for this lrt system there no way to build platform screen doors because they would have to automate the entire line so the accuracy on stopping where the doors are would be higher and since the c train has a bunch of grade crossings, it would be risky to implement automatic train operation on the line
