they dont ususally break in summer, in winter it usually happens after a large temp change, 40 years installing and repairing them for the City of Ottawa via various contractors... so maybe people should be talking about that.... why it broke, was it newly installed ???

@@davebloggs No. Nobody’s going to spend time on a water main after the repair is made. The people doing the repairs, and maybe their supervisors, are the only ones who will ever know why the pipe broke open. *If* they discover an engineering flaw in the road or pipe, they’ll correspond with the department in charge of that road or fix it all themselves. After that, a single sheet of paper will remember some of it for them in a dusty binder, never to be read again. I do that job for a living now, but in a different city. Seminars and other meetups show the same patterns I see across most municipalities. Money’s tight, pipelines break especially if they’re old, and bureaucracy exists only to expand bureaucracy.

It's a red flag, but nothing more. Wearing the flag doesn't mean she personally endorses it, only that she's unwilling to quit a job that forces her to wear it for one month a year ("I can work my way to the top and change this from within" is a noble, if often misguided goal). Wearing rainbow earrings, on the other hand, is a stronger red flag... But still only a red flag, because anthropology can show several good explanations for why that particular lady wore the earrings, and several glaringly nasty reasons, all of which *are only possibilities until you ascertain the truth.* For example, the earrings might signify a reluctant support for a family member/child (unwilling but forced). It might instead show a slimy manipulation tactic to bring about more complicity from their "subjects"). Those are the two extreme examples, but anthropology tells us they're not the only possible reasons. Worth looking into. Which of these people are ruthless bureaucrats who exist only to perpetuate bureaucracy, with all the charisma to get it done? Which of these people are iron-willed hard workers who are trying to pick their battles in an effort to win their war? And which iron-willed hard workers are actually looking out for the ETHICAL good of their city, versus a pure financial good? Are any of them just trying to improve their institution's reputation? *All that is to say, I agree with you.* However, I work for a city and am ex-trans, now Christian conservative. I know how many layers this topic has, and am slowly learning how carefully one has to investigate everything to be a righteous judge, and my late brother commanded me to live up to this gamertag.

Considering this pipe and infrastructure design was done before Ralph Klein was mayor - there is a long history of mayor's and counsels that failed to upgrade this infrastructure. If Gondek had made a decision and investment to upgrade this infrastructure in the time since she was elected the work would start approximately 10 years from now. Sorry she does not really have much blame on this issue despite the hatefull rhetoric you would like to believe.

This isn't a water main break. This is a feeder main break. A single pipe that carries 60% of calgary's water. Carries it to the regional feeders, to the regional reservoirs, then to the neighborhood feeders - THEN to water mains. Seriously, a pipe which is around 30' diameter. Not the little 6" pipe that runs down your street.
