@@gavcom4060 They were still struggling when they had their original "3 for $10 special" that included an entree, a soft drink, and an appetizer. And I remember sometimes they had specials with that, such as lunch-size fajitas or even a 6 oz sirloin steak with 2 sides. That was a spectacular deal. I remember telling workers there I felt guilty about spending so little but they said they were fine with people taking advantage of their deals. That's changed now to a "3 for Me" with variable pricing. Even $16.99 for the 6 oz sirloin with the soft drink and appetizer was a pretty good deal compared to any of their competitors. $10.99 with a burger A Quarter Pounder with Cheese, large fries, and large drink at my closest McDonald's is more than that and the burger isn't as good. As far as value goes, I remember the big secret used to be that lunch specials could be ordered at any time. I mentioned that I missed the lunch special and was told that the special could be ordered any time. Maybe not any more, but I remember I could go to most locations and order a half order of ribs that came with fries and cinammon apples for $6.99. At least one location said they hadn't heard of it. Then later they changed that to a $9.99 half rack, or later 2 orders of half racks with either a sharable appetizer or two side salads.

I'm glad I saw this! I checked their nutrition information on their website, and I guess the reason "Americans Are Going Back to Chili's" is because they have not, or don't care about the amount of sodium in their food. One item (the big winner) has 10,480 grams of sodium. That is equivalent to a huge pile of salt (maybe half a normal table shaker's-worth). YES- more than 5x what is recommended in the US for an adult male in good health (2000g per-day, or less). (In case you're wondering, it's the Fried Mozzarella with Nashville Sauce 6 ct.) Look up the info on their website before you visit. When I was in my 20's, I could care less. Now I am much older. And I am sure it's probably delicious! Like I said- I'm glad I saw this.

While people are rightfully pointing out fast food prices being almost the same, I'd say there's a couple other things that are probably contributing as well. There's a whole generation of people who didn't grow up with the Chili's/TGIF/Applebee's days that had long went stale in the late 2000s and now realizing Chili's is actually pretty good for the price. Also, while it's long been cool to try the smaller, hipper restaurants, those places have been getting outrageously expensive and the quality isn't often there either. I really hope this trend continues as we need a middle ground again between fast food and hip restaurants, both of which have priced your average consumer out.

Or you can go to del taco for a 13 ish dollar meal. Yes with apps you can make fast food cheap but once you add the non nutritional value of fast food, that adds a reason to eat at a restaurant. And in ambience, TV, customer service, social experiences, and ordering cheap at a restaurant sounds like a great time. Chili's, applebees, norms, ihop, and the similar small restaurants are looking better as fast food prices rise but stay the same in quality.

If you have a choice pay $13 dollars for a Burger and fries from McDonald's or $13.50 for a burger and fries from Chili's, most will choose Chili's. Unfortunately for most FastFood, they were meant to be quick and CHEAP. But now their prices are getting into fast-casual prices like Chili's.
