Fast food lost it's mind when they started thinking that it being fast was some premium feature they could upcharge for. The idea that any meal at McDonalds or Burger King is as expensive as any meal at Chilli's just shows how insane it got.

More businesses need to listen to their customers. The worst business is a business that just wants to do whatever they want. Life doesn’t work that way because in their case the goal is to try to please the customer. But some businesses are so stupid they just don’t learn.

ive worked at chilis as a server for 2 yrs, bartender for 1. the change in business over this past year has been insane - we’ve always been a busy restaurant for our area but now we’ll have lines/waits every day of the week. when i first started bar i could take my bar top and a 6 table section easy because restaurant drinks were so slow, now every night of the weeks feels like a friday night in terms of business and how busy i am at the drink well. my store saw an insane boom in business end of may/early june and its just been growing ever since, to the point that we’re about to add another manager and are working on adding more staff just to keep things going well. i feel really lucky that i got in to working at chilis when i did, its been really awesome to watch the numbers grow throughout the two years and im excited for the future!

In my opinion, we have so many escapist activities today (social media, video games, p*rn, etc.) that people are incentivized to live their lives without actually living their lives, if that makes sense. Why go outside when you have social media? Why seek a partner when you have p*rn? Speaking from experience, once you fall into that type of stuff, it takes a ton of effort to get yourself outside and live in the real world. And obviously COVID amplified all of those problems for a ton of people.

@@gavcom4060 They were still struggling when they had their original "3 for $10 special" that included an entree, a soft drink, and an appetizer. And I remember sometimes they had specials with that, such as lunch-size fajitas or even a 6 oz sirloin steak with 2 sides. That was a spectacular deal. I remember telling workers there I felt guilty about spending so little but they said they were fine with people taking advantage of their deals. That's changed now to a "3 for Me" with variable pricing. Even $16.99 for the 6 oz sirloin with the soft drink and appetizer was a pretty good deal compared to any of their competitors. $10.99 with a burger A Quarter Pounder with Cheese, large fries, and large drink at my closest McDonald's is more than that and the burger isn't as good. As far as value goes, I remember the big secret used to be that lunch specials could be ordered at any time. I mentioned that I missed the lunch special and was told that the special could be ordered any time. Maybe not any more, but I remember I could go to most locations and order a half order of ribs that came with fries and cinammon apples for $6.99. At least one location said they hadn't heard of it. Then later they changed that to a $9.99 half rack, or later 2 orders of half racks with either a sharable appetizer or two side salads.

While people are rightfully pointing out fast food prices being almost the same, I'd say there's a couple other things that are probably contributing as well. There's a whole generation of people who didn't grow up with the Chili's/TGIF/Applebee's days that had long went stale in the late 2000s and now realizing Chili's is actually pretty good for the price. Also, while it's long been cool to try the smaller, hipper restaurants, those places have been getting outrageously expensive and the quality isn't often there either. I really hope this trend continues as we need a middle ground again between fast food and hip restaurants, both of which have priced your average consumer out.

Last week there was a heat wave and I went to Chili's a lot. They have a pick 3 menu. You can get a steak and veggies and soup and drink all for like 17 dollars. Add a cheap marg and it's 21. Or you can go to del taco for a 13 ish dollar meal. Yes with apps you can make fast food cheap but once you add the non nutritional value of fast food, that adds a reason to eat at a restaurant. And in ambience, TV, customer service, social experiences, and ordering cheap at a restaurant sounds like a great time. Chili's, applebees, norms, ihop, and the similar small restaurants are looking better as fast food prices rise but stay the same in quality.

Prices good. Food is good. Service is good. Unfortunately, this is very hard to find nowadays.

The timing of this video feels ironic. About a month ago, randomly went to a nearby chilis for lunch. And boy was I blown away. I sort of forgot they existed for so long. But the food was good, the atmosphere was good. And the 3 for $10.99 menu, not only made it a great budget option by itself, but coupled with its quality and sit down experience, made it antop tier option, and one I’m repeatedly wanting to go back to.

The short answer is that they’re cheaper for a FULL decent meal compared to McDonald’s, etc. Heck, I took my mother there on Mother’s Day this year and had a good time too and paid under $30!🤣

My first time going back to Chili’s since high school was Valentine’s Day 2023. When my co-workers asked me where I went, I confidently/nonchalantly said Chili’s and kept typing. They DOGGED ME OUT about me letting “a grown man” take me to Chili’s! I absolutely did NOT mind going there at all. Also, I’m a VERY considerate person. He made significantly less than me so I wasn’t gonna ask to go to Morton’s Steakhouse or something. 🙄 Money is NOT the issue for me but it’s all about if you INTEND to do right by me! You can spend lots of money on me and I will STILL leave if you’re not right! Furthermore, you can make less than me and I won’t care about that at all as long as your intentions are pure. It didn’t last because despite me being “what every guy SAY they want” he was full of games. But the job didn’t last either because they were EXTREMELY toxic so I left them too!!!!

It's fast food pushing us out. Why pay 12 dollars for fast food when you can sit down and have better quality food that is the same price if not cheaper

I have been a Chili's customer since the late 80s. I'm glad there is still a Chili's in my area. I think one of the main reasons why they are doing so well in this down economy is because they offer consistently good food at a reasonable price. I love their burgers, and they are much better than what you get at most fast-food chains. They have the "3 for me" menu, and a $10.99 Lunch deal that gives you a choice of entree, chips and a drink. They even gave me a $25.00 coupon. They really do deserve all the success they are getting. Other restaurant chains should pay attention. Chili's is really one of the last restaurant chains that offer a good value meal, and doesn't compromise on quality. Oh yea, and they have the best chips & salsa!

I remember as a kid , Chili's used to be a considered something fancy or for a big occasion, then it turned into some low rating restaurant and even closed many locations. I'm happy they're back on their feet again. It's an iconic brand from the 90's , early 00's.

Chili's was fancy to you? I'm a 90s kid and Chili's came across as just "fun" and "quirky" casual dining to me.

My family and friends stopped going because the service and especially the food at our closest location got to be absolute crap. Since they changed management/service, we have begun going back regularly. That's what a restaurant needs to look into when a location's numbers are tanking.

The probable increase in sales could be attributed to McDonald's and similar establishments setting prices that are too high for the quality of food provided.

I'm currently living in Manila. There's a few Chili's here and they're always full of people. The servings are plentiful for the price and taste great. Even here in Southeast Asia, McDonalds and KFC prices are increasing. I'd rather spend US$5 in Chili's than McDonalds.
