A brilliant discussion between two brilliant women on one of the most brilliant (and relevant) books I’ve ever read. I’ve had this book since it came out, but I’ve never had anywhere I could talk about it, or hear other women’s opinions about Federici’s ideas. Thank you, Heli and Jo.

It is men, the ruling classes were populated by men and solely men throughout history. Yes, of course there were some women who ruled but mainly women were the vessels to produce an heir for their ruling husbands and to be an interim ruler should he die and their heir was not old enough to take the position otherwise it was all men ruling the world and as it is comparable to today things haven't changed much. This is true in Egypt as well as the entire world. I say Egypt because people love to point out Cleopatra and Hatshepsut as examples of women ruling as though everything was equal and fair. These examples are only that. Women would be allowed to be placed in power like Queen Elizabeth when an acceptable male heir was unavailable to rule. Women have always been an interim ruler until a male heir could take her place. Men ruled economies worldwide as well. The merchant classes were run by men. Again, there were of course, some women who ran businesses but they were far and few between until as you point out the plagues ravaged mostly the male population and men were gone and the men who remained couldn't tolerate a large population of women controlling the commerce so they eventually had to devise something to take us out. Throughout history wherever there was an exceptionably intolerable circumstance men rape women in those circumstances making it that much more difficult for women than what the men are dealing with. Men have never come to the aid of women. Sure there are some examples like the sailers that came home early to rescue their female relations but never in an all encompassing turn out. Men like their dominance over us as was proven through Shere Hite's Report on Male Sexuality even if it hurts them in the long run men do not want to fundamentally change their dominance over us.

FACTS. I don't believe for a second that at any point in time ANY relatively advanced society was truly egalitarian either (because men will never freaking let go of their instinctual malevolent habit to DOMINATE us). And I doubt they're ever gonna start learning now either.
