Calibrating ST1000+ Auto Pilot , also fixing issue with calibration mode not starting on key press

I had noticed that my autopilot was not following course very well , here I show the steps to calibrate including fixing an issue that shows itself as the auto pilot not going into calibration after pressing standby for 1 second.

Hi. My steering tiller handle is backwards.I guess it was made that way, so u can do fishing from the back of the boat and be able to steer it while there, So if I install a raymarine, my boat will wanna steer the opposite direction of what raymarine is trying to turn. Do you have any idea if there is a setting or adjustment for that?

Yeah there's a setting if it's installed on port or starboard so you can switch it over to reverse controls on the tiller pilot itself

hi, This is very interesting. mine has a tendency to occasionally just push to full extension while in auto mode. ie the electronics tries to make a course correction, and extends the piston, but it doesn't stop, and goes to full extension. could this be caused/fixed by calibration?

Interference from something to the electronic compass in the auto pilot , I found my outboard drove it nuts on my last boat as it was in a well right under it. You can get remote compass

I have a similar issue, pressing stby for 1 or even 5 seconds doesn't get the pilot to cal mode. Im ginna try this. Where did you find this trick?
