Is it normal for it to take quite a few seconds for the boat to pair with the remote thanks

Mine goes out 10 yards the lights start flashing on the boat then starts doing its own thing , anyone any ideas

Is this with boat on or off? I've just changed batteries in handset, it's working ok(ish) but when in cruise its now veering left
