This video is great but, If your gage is off by 100-150psi what other ways can you repair the gage?

+verne stewart There is also a range or span adjustment and depending on the make of the gauge, a mid point adjustment and a micro span adjustment. Ashcroft recommends that if a gauge is over 10% off to just replace it.

when calibration is done on a accumulator for the oil field does the sticker has to be printed out with date and initials or can it be a standard sticker with hand written initials and date. have safety man telling me it must be printed out as per OSHA i looked but couldn't find anything on the subject.

I use hand written stickers as they can’t be replicated. I have never seen anything that says they need to be printed.

+blessing samuel the calibration test points are determined by your procedure. I am using a procedure that tells me to choose 25,50,75and 100% test points.

I'll give you a thumbs up. You look like someone who actually knows how to use a Ametek Dead Weight test. Type "T" 15,000 psi Comparator. This same pump is also used with weight set. which it looks like you have set up for based on how you have your pump mounted to the drip pan. Make sure you read your manual on using that adjustment knob on the manifold. It's rated for around 2,500 psi. 3,000 usually is to a problem. You can use the manifold like you have it up to 15,000 psi but you can not adjust pressure. Looks like that is an old pump. Looks like the reservoir cap fits over the reservoir. It wouldn't surprise me if it is well over 35 year old. I can also tell this hasn't been sent back to the factory for repair in over 20 years if not at all. You still have the original vent plug and missing warning tags that is mandatory for every unit that goes in for service. These are good pumps. On the tag located on the reservoir has the manufacturing date (MFG) date and assemblers initials. This video helps prove that they last for years. Refurbishing pump isn't too difficult. Break it down, clean it up and replace the o-rings is usually all it needs to repair it. As long as you know how the set the front poppet, bleed it and make sure you have the right poppet in the poppet location. One of the poppet has a tip which rides on the hi/lo valve. You probably all ready know all this stuff, but in case you don't... you do now. I hope that fitting on the back of that reservoir is only used to gravity fill the unit. People were killed pressuring it that way. That is why they went with the safety plug on in place of solid vent plug.like you have. As long as you keep it open during use, you should have no problem. Reservoir is not a pressure tank. Again... you probably already know this stuff. If you ever have any question or issues with it,, just reply and I'll talk you thru it. You did a good presentation.

L Stevens, Spot on! It is an older modified dead weight tester. The weights and piston sleeve were worn to the point of replacement so we decided to purchase an ashcroft type of deadweight tester years ago. We plugged the outlet to the piston assembly and just use the pump now. We sent the pump in to be rebuilt maybe 2 years ago to the ametek key largo fl. facility. It's a great unit and has been around our shop for at least 20 years that I know of. The only thing I would change on it is the bleed valve design. It's a metal on metal seat and leaks by if there are any containments in the fluid. That's one of the reasons we went to the ashcroft deadweight tester. It has an-o-ring bleed valve and holds a bit tighter. I've gone back and forth on moving to a nitrogen based system with a digital crystal Nvision lab readout, but the deadweight testers are just so reliable with a little bit of maintenance and you don't need to refill nitrogen bottles all the time. Not to mention the standard nitrogen bottle only gives you around 2500 to 3000psi. Sounds like you know your stuff. Thanks for the comment!

I worked for Ametek in Largo FL for several years as a Senior Service Tech, Calibrator and Sales Support. If you have any issues or questions about troubleshooting, let me know and I'll talk you through it. I helped many customers while I was working there. Or contact their customer service and see if they still carry that type of support. I'm sure they do. I do remember the relief valve being and issue on these units on new and old. The units I used at Ametek didn't seem to have that issue. Another issue was the o-ring popping off on the poppet across from the hi\lo valve. It would tend to pop off when operator was pumping the handle while switching the hi/lo valve trying to build pressure. Sometimes, even doing the bleeding process. Than the Hi side would no longer work. You keep pumping and nothing would work.Or if it did, it would take a real long time. To prevent this, we would put a drop of glue on the groove and than slip the o-ring on without getting glue on top of the o-ring. We did this on all pumps when building them as new and repairing customer units. The glue we used was a superglue made by Loctite. You won't find this in the owners manual unless they updated it. I've seen some of Ashcroft pumps and gauges. They seem to be really good units. Their gauges seem better than USG. gauges. I calibrated some that came into our plant with our units. I was checking them out. Fell right into calibration. Mechanism was thicker. Hysteresis was no issue. That's going back a few years. A common geographical error is Ametek is located in Largo, not Key Largo. Key Largo is very south of Florida. Largo is between Clearwater and St. Petersburg west of Tampa. It's irrelevant but now you know. For your readers/followers... I also agree with your comments about nitrogen. As far as I know, Ashcroft makes a good unit. Pall Aeorspace and Leslie controls uses Ashcroft dead weight testers. From what I was told, the engineer that came up with that pump and piston assembly quit Ametek and went to Ashcroft and implemented that product. It's a copy of Ametek's 10-Pump. It maxed out 10,000 psi. From what I heard. Ametek quit making them. And now you and your reader know a little more..

When calibrating a pressure test gauge - always lightly tap the case before taking a reading, and test gauges should always be tested on the increase and decreasing - with average of both readings

How to calibrate a liquid filled gauge
@mohammedgouda629
@mohammedgouda629 3 жыл бұрын
This calibration method is not accurate at all, no preloads done, no warming - up for the gauge to ensure that the pressure difference is accurate. The value of the video is concentrated on the adjustment of the deflections of the pointer. Thanks for your effort ....
