Just read about these in my Fluid Mechanics textbook. Very Cool!

I wish I saw this about 5-7 years ago when people were leaving comments. I've done this for over 15 years. Nothing wrong with this video. I worked for Ametek TCI. The engineer who designed this dead weight tester for Ashcroft came from Ametek and used Ametek's 10-Pump design. At least that is what I was told. It is called a 10-Pump because it can be used up to 10,000 psi. Before I go on... I see nothing wrong with this video. Well done. The rest is mainly for your readers. Looks like you know what you are doing. Anyways reading some your readers comments, all hydraulic dead weight tester will have a small leakage. That is why there is a knurl finish on the top part of the piston. As long as it is in the range of the knurl, it is accurate. It is based on a drop time of 3 minutes or more from the bottom of the knurl to the top of the knurl with no instrument (such as a gauge) attached. Another commented about the physics (movement) in the gauge as you were calibrating it. Gauge will move if anything is touched such as the handle, valve, weights, or vernier adjustment. Vernier will only lift the weights to give more time calibrating, but the needle may move a little and readjust to the weight factor. Venier (I'm don't remember if Ashcroft pump has a vernier) is usually used to adjust reading if unit is used as a gage comparator (using a master gage with no weights). If piston is sticking, it will also interfere with the reading. Another commented that this is not a true calibration because you only adjusted the needle. That isn't true because gauge is be compared a known weight factor. Four things are involved... Proper zero setting as shown in the video. Linearity, Span and hysteresis. As far as another person commented on a true zero, you do not have to open relief valve 100%. Just break the gage loose from the connection once the pressure is released can verify this.

The industry standard is to crack the valve 1/4 to 1/2 of a turn open. That way the process pulsation are dampened from wearing out the gauge. Basically the gauge will last longer. Thanks

Hi. You should always exert maximum pressure to gauge, before calibration, to prime it. Then you can proceed. More points are standard, and an up-down scheme with repetitions is used. Just to let you know.

I have a question that's being debated at my job. when putting a pressure gauge into service that has an isolation valve below it, does it matter if the isolation valve is open 100% or just opened enough to show pressure on the gauge?

When the experiment was conducted, it was observed that there was oil leakage between the piston and the cylinder. Because of the leakage, the pressure on the manometer start increasing and decreasing repetitively, what are the physics behind that?

that gauge only has zero error..u can see the error in every points--linear.. what if we have a combination of zero and span error. where can we or what part of the gauge we adjust the span?

Span Error is adjusted inside the back of the gauge normaly. There is a linkage that acts as a pivot point. As you move it up or down, it basically makes the needle move faster or slower. It can be real frustrating making the span adjustments then taking readings then adjustments over and over again.

thank you very much but i think that you cannot call this operation a calibration because you only did the adjustment and you did not calculate the incertitude and the correction so you can not made a certification using only the adjustment
