Per Sr. Sharpe's updates: 1st banded chick 23/D is a male; 2nd banded chick 24/D is the youngest bird, a male; 3rd banded chick is the largest and probably oldest chick, a female. In celebration of the first banding of the season (at the West End), @Institute for Wildlife Studies has a $5000 Matching Challenge to help them continue their work with the bald eagles on the Channel Islands. Any contribution will automatically enter you in the Nest Adoption Challenge. Learn more and donate at: www.iws.org/nest-adoption-challenge

It amazes me how well-behaved all 3 of the eaglets were while they were captive (temporarily) and being fitted for the bands. I'm guessing that Mom and Dad were okay with it, too since they kept a simple watch overhead. No dive-bombing the good Dr. or members of his team. WTG, Dr. Sharpe, and team! You guys are darn amazing, too! Thank you for the exciting post, Cali Condor! ❤

Thanks for the video Cali!! So exciting...its like they knew it was going to be ok. They didn't even seem stressed...but I'll bet Thunder and Chet were worried 😟

Oh Cali, you never cease to amaze me with your posts. I must have liked this one a while back but had gotten interrupted, so I just watched it now! As my hubby says, "Amazeballs'!! (I apologize in advance if this is long:) Amazeballs for many reasons: 1 camera operators, wow, they caught all of this and they continue to catch it all the time! They are Amazeballlll! 2. Dr Sharpe & entire team, the care they give to these beautiful raptors, to get to hold them, not just because that in itself would be cool, but they hold them to help bring their existence back to the channel Islands. Reading what we humans had done just broke my heart and I'm so glad they had finally figured out how to get an egg to "hatch" at the nests "foster eggs" . It read just brilliant! I don't even know a small chapter in their book of knowledge. They are Amazeballs! Then 3) Cali you just make it so nice to watch the videos and pictures that you post to share with everyone. I've never seen you write anything mean even when anyone and even myself had accidentally asked the same question someone else just did. So Cait. Drum roll please: You're Amazeballs!! Thank you!

Watching this was amazing but hard to watch at the same time! They took such care but mom and dad were really upset and seeing the shadows of them flying above and calling was heart wrenching.

@@Whatnok The work they do with the island eagles is extremely important. It is not meant to be cool! Every year I read these kind of comments! Do some research, you will not be disappointed. Dr. Sharpe and his team are amazing!

I am glad everyone is safe! That was nice that Dr. Sharpe gave them water. It seemed that they were thirsty. How often do they drink water? You guys are awesome just like those Eagles.

The first eaglet to be banded sure seemed interested in all the tools. 😁 Now the triplets will be talking about their "Alien abduction" by those strange creatures who can't even fly!😅👽

Will that smaller, younger male make it? It seemed to be breathing harder than the other two closer in size and didn’t get anything in a feeding on the video titled “they see the crew coming” (or something close to that). Concerns me, that smaller one.

Curious as to why each person held an eaglet? So they each had a different human scent on them? Also, was the female the biggest one at this point?
@drea09032 жыл бұрын
i think it was faster this way. each one holds one and the DR. does his measurements and banding then up they go.
