@@shirleyyoung1941 I moved from Redlands California, a two hour drive from Los Angeles, to West Valley Utah, next to Salt Lake City in 2020, and am so happy I did. I miss the Southern California weather, but that's it. The last time I went to LA it looked and smelled like the aftermath of the Zombie Apocalypse. When I visit Salt Lake City it's mostly clean, most businesses are open, there's just a small handful of homeless you occasionally see in the downtown area, and it just feels a lot safer. Sure SLC isn't perfect, as no city is, but it's a whole lot better than LA.

Ever think of leaving CA? I'm in FL, we have problems here too, sky high tax/ins for HOs. The whole state being paved over right up to the Everglades but not as dead as these cities in CA. It's very sad/haunting to see everything closed and boarded. I feel as if I'm looking at my state down the road in a decade or two. Hope you can visit the state before that happens. Many factors are at work to create these situations. This is not limited to California but seems to be present in most if not all big cities. The causes? Inflation, resulting in increases in: rent/lease, business fees, utilities, commodities, taxes,etc. Lack of law enforcement, security, employee safety, theft. Recovery is not going to be so quick if it ever does happen.
