Peter, I grew up here, and went thru my entire school years here. My younger sister was born in Weaverville, in 1965. My older brother died here in 69, and the entire community paid for all of his services, my parents never seen a bill. My Dad worked the Trinity Lumber co. And retired from there. He also managed the Trinity Lanes bowling alley for many years. It's my greatest wish, to live there again. It's an amazing place to raise children. I grew up in San Diego and moved to Fortuna (humboldt county) when I was around 14 years old. This whole area captivates like no other place I've ever seen. I've been lucky enough to have been coast to coast multiple times, and to other countries. To be here on vacation is amazing, but to live here is even better. Yes the economy and opportunities is low, unfortunately that's the cost of being rural and remote. Even though I loved growing up in san diego, being able to wake up to fog coming off the mountains surrounding you on a crisp morning, then later go down to swim in pristine rivers in 90 degree summer sun, is something you never forget. We get storms and get cold (especially with snow in the mountains), where you bring out the ole soup and winter comfort food, and get the fire going. Then in summer you have hot days with clear skies. I remember the feeling of being a kid and going out of the city to go camping as a trip, up here, it has the same exact feeling by simply stepping outside and looking around. Most of us up here don't even have camping gear because it's so close to just go back home lol

To the lady at around 41:00 talking about state of Jefferson... I generally like the idea of people coming together to organize for self determination, but I don't think they actually consider the consequences of a Jefferson. This video is literally about the "poorest county" and Jefferson would be completely comprised of the poorest counties of CA, OR, maybe NV & ID. They seem to believe that the productive, liberal cities are "stealing" their taxes and they don't see any benefits. There might be some specific examples where this is somewhat true, but in aggregate, rural, red areas benefit far more from state & federal public funds than they lose. There just isn't an economic base to fund/maintain the infrastructure that makes their lives possible with only local taxes. I can appreciate that most of the people that live there are highly self sufficient, but Jefferson would rate like a 3rd world country if they didn't have the rest of of the state supporting them.

On the flipside, the natural resources they possess, water, timber, virgin forest, fertile land, (gold?), etc. could make them one of the richest "States" in the union, especially if it's unfettered by a corrupt California Govt. hamstringing them with laws to control them. e.g. wildlife deemed "endangered" by clueless city folk (spotted Owl).

Especially when those of the bay area call themselves "northern" California when they live 4 hours from the northern border. I like the theory they call it that so they can claim it is "their" water they're taking.

@cbeautifulworld114 сағат бұрын
@@gordocarbo a temporary, circumstantial move. It's not easy to get back to Santa Barbara once someone leaves because the home prices rise and have risen so dramatically. Ventura is a good choice, at least much less expensive than Santa Barbara and much better than LA. Unfortunately a lot of the smaller, most affordable towns up north or elsewhere in California have high crime rates and/or are extremely right wing.

Peter, Thank you for showcasing Trinity County on your recent video. My wife and I have watched you travel through northern California and really enjoyed your journey, along with your other adventures. We have lived in Weaverville for only a few years but have owned a place here for over 10 years. Trinity County, as you have witnessed, is a place that people always come back to after they leave to search for greener pasture. We may be the poorest county in California, but the richest in beauty and history. There is so much more to see and do than most would never know. (Maybe that's why Woody Harrelson visits frequently). Thank you for your visit, and remember you are always welcome here to enjoy what Trinity County has to offer. Happy travels, and keep showing us places we may never know about or ever see.
