Come on guys, he's showing the 99% of the song that really matters. We as guitarists need to remember that the masses are going to EVER notice a little "sus" anything is missing and the ladies sure don't mind either. I appreciate what you did with California Dreaming Justin. I'm a seasoned player and now getting too lazy to pick songs apart at the CD player. I've always loved this song and it was in my opinion a quick reference to play it automatically now at any campfire LOL, thanks man!

Thank you so so much Justin for your lessons. My guitar has been locked up in a case for many years, don't know why...but a few months ago I decided enough was enough and let it out. It was painful at first (fingers), but am loving playing all the new songs I've learned, thanks to you! I've almost mastered this song, without any mistakes!

All the leaves are Am, G and F, and the G is E7sus4. E7, F went for a C, E7, Am, on a F chord E7sus4 You've gotta love it!!!

Excellent. I like to work stuff out myself but couldn't figure the intro. You did it in the last few secs. H ha - made me wait. Went thru every step anyway. I had been playing Esus4 and E (easy) rather than E7sus4 and E7 - yours sounds so much better.

@charlyscheck2153 Жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot for this clear instruction. The song is much easier played in the a-minor shape using capo on the 5th fret than in d-minor without a capo. With that it's also esay to play the intro. I would have fancied to see the ending of the song though and especially the very last chord. But anyway, thank you.

@DennisCoban It is the intonation thing that was explained in another comment. Basically your fret spacing is slightly off or your action is too high. The action thing takes about 5 minutes to fix, whereas improperly spaced frets is a much harder to fix problem and generally one of the things that marks a higher quality guitar from a lower quality one. I have a guitar that is similar, so basically I got a better guitar and use my crappier one to play in open position while camping and such.

Further to my post 4 months ago about the second chord in the progression not being a G Major chord, my suspicions have been confirmed. Just found a video showing John Phillips playing it. The chord progression with a capo on the 4th fret is clearly Am, Am with G bass note (John Phillips takes his fourth finger and plays a low G while still holding the Am chord and a G note is also played on the bass, then F barre chord, G barre chord, E7sus4 and E7. It is clear the second chord on the original recording is not a major chord. If you can't play the low G note while holding the Am chord, it would be more technically correct to play an Am7 chord instead of the G. So the easy version should be Am, Am7, F barre, G barre, E7sus4, E7.
