Yup. Keep it up. You may be a good driver and respect and obey the rules of the road but others will not. I hope you always stay safe. Keep being vigilant like you always are.

Thank you for this video. I am currently writing a novel and have never been on a motorcycle, so this definitely helped me with describing a scene....setting is the East Coast but helpful nonetheless! Thanks!!!!

I was a toddler in Santa Cruz in the late 60’s. My father owned a specialized Porsche/Audi repair shop in Scotts Valley. I remember well, going with dad on test drives over 17 in new condition 911S model cars and eventually the turbo Porsche. That was also back in the day when Hwy 17 didn’t have a center barrier between the east and westbound lanes. The locals back then called 17 “highway to hell”

Nice video, really enjoyed it, im not a fan of motorbikes but i enjoyed the scenery and how you are cautious to all road users. There are still some good bikers out there

Nice ride, thanks for sharing. And thanks for pointing the camera so we saw where you were going, instead of doing what many riders do - point the camera downward so much the lower half of the screen is fuel tank, and little of where they are going.

Rented a bike back 2 years ago. First time i had ridden in California. I got to Santa Cruz late at night and there was NO HOTELS at all. The only hotel available was in Hayward. So I took 17 in the middle of the night. But 5 minutes into it there was a gridlock traffic jam. People literally pulled over to the side to sleep. But since I was in California... I lane split all the way to San Jose. That is my story of Highway 17
@stadtbewohner5 жыл бұрын
Wow, quite a story! I heard that when there's an accident on 17 nothing goes. Lane splitting is a real advantage in California for sure.

28 minutes is standard for LG to SC :) beautiful trip between the two areas. So sad they closed Gilda's on the wharf due to covid-19. My ears are plugged just watching this video from the altitude change going through the mountains lol.

Dude! Thanks for sharing this. I'm on the verge of buying my first bike and was worried about buying one from a dealership over the hill because of 17. Seems like there's plenty of room and you don't have to lean all crazy, which is what I was worried about. You think a 400cc would do okay on 17?
@stadtbewohner2 ай бұрын
Yes, that would be totally enough to do the 50-65 mph.

@27:00 The Irony! A roller coaster in the distance and this man has his own personal "roller coaster" that would exhilarate the riders of the real roller coaster by a factor of 4. Maybe 5. Roller coasters have nothing on the ZX14. Well, maybe the BIG amusement parks. Electrically propelled roller coasters. Wow. Closest you can get to being in a fighter jet. Unless you are the pilot of one.

I don't get why one would ride so slow. I'm not talking about racing or pushing it, just riding fast enough to keep your mind on the ride. I commute on 17 with my ZX-12, if I'm just going to cruise, I take a cruiser.

Ever heard of sticking to the speed limit
@mbtbd3 жыл бұрын
@@supertrinigamer Yeah, and if I did, I would fall asleep. Being an attentive driver/rider is far more important, and that means your will often need to go over the "speed limit", rather than driving slow, backing up traffic, and being dangerous while looking at your speedometer rather than the road. Stop living your life being a slave to distant tyrants, know yourself and use your mind.

Bet you can't lane split in Germany like that
@stadtbewohner4 жыл бұрын
It's not allowed in Germany, which sucks. In most of Europe outside Germany, Switzerland and Austria it is legal though.

@@stadtbewohner I thought the Germans had more sense? Must be one reason not as many ride there as in Italy and France? Well, at least the they stay on the right lane except to pass.
@stadtbewohner4 жыл бұрын
@@mbtbd The main reason is the weather in Germany/Switzerland/Austria. There is a big difference in numbers of riders between northern Germany and southern Germany. The Alps region has way more riders than California (3% CA vs 10% in the Alps). Lane splitting in Germany is illegal, because it is seen as dangerous, and Germany has this over-the-top safety culture. If something could be dangerous, they either make it illegal or at least regulate the sh** out of it. Plus, people in Germany are more often super anal about their cars, compared to France and Italy, where people don't mind if there is a scratch in the car. For a large number of Germans, the possibility of someone (motorcycle filtering) could damage their holy car, is reason enough to make it illegal. Even a shallow, half-inch long scratch in the bumper could easily lead to a costly insurance claim in the thousands of euros. That being said, on hot summer days, the German police often looks the other way if you're filtering through a traffic jam on the Autobahn, but if something happens, you're on your own, insurance-wise.
@mbtbd3 жыл бұрын
@@stadtbewohner There are a lot of riders in London, and they do lane split, a practice that has saved my life more than once. I don't think it's just the weather --not being allowed to go between lanes really puts a serious damper on riding. It's rather absurd. Being able to lane split is #1 reason to be in California if you live in the U.S.
