California Highway 88 East: Clements to Jackson | Driving into the Sierra Nevada Foothills

& so it begins- the official do over of your series of CA route 88 though the Sierra Nevada.

Great drive! You know, of all the Sierra-crossing highways, Hwy 88 seemed to take the longest time getting through the foothills. Has anyone else noticed this? Or, is it just my imagination? It really was a lot more fun, before all the stoplights, roundabouts, and traffic. Was it really necessary?

I've noticed how desolate the highway seems east of Jackson, compared to the other crossings

The 80 is a greeway the entire way, the 50 is a freeway from Sacramento to Placerville.
