We planned on summiting Mt. Langley in a two day backpacking trip. Unfortunately we were smoked out by wildfires burning to the west. Still, it was a beautiful and fun hike.

This was really cool! We are hoping to summit Langley or White Mtn this summer. Sorry about the smoke. Smart on you guys to descend. Not worth it. Our wildfires are just out of control and have been increasing yearly over the last decade. I have a very serious question though. If you camp how do you go number 2? Are there bathrooms at the lake?

Yeah, we're extra careful when it comes to smoke...if it's in the area we clear out fast. I highly recommend White Mountain, we hike that one quite often, especially when we're training for really high altitudes. No permits, beautiful road leading to the trailhead, no permits, easy to follow trail so sunrise or sunset hikes are perfectly fine, and there's a restroom at the trailhead. You can also camp overnight beforehand for some extra time acclimatizing. For Langley, the bathroom question is a very important one. As with anywhere, there are certain rules. I believe Langley is just outside the Whitney Zone (which requires you to remove all human waste). Around Langley you can bury it, as long as it's a certain distance from water and you follow all the rules. There are restrooms at the trailhead, and being only an overnight, I try to avoid number 2 entirely until we're back down at the trailhead. We're trying to attempt Langley and White Mountain again, probably over the 4th of July. Fingers crossed there are less fires this summer!

@@lylesuch4421 Thank you so much for the info! We are doing either one around the 4th too maybe will run into each other haha I saw that Langley needs a permit if overnight camping and those are now sold out and only walk up permits are available. Grrrr. Good to know that there are restrooms at Langley trailhead. How’s the road to white Mtn? We have an suv but I occasionally have read about tires being popped. Will bring fix a flat in any case and we will definitely camp at the trailhead to better acclimate. We hiked Big Pines Lake just a bit before Palisades Glacier over the summer last year and didn’t find 11k feet too bad but we camped around the trailhead the night before. Good luck to you guys hopefully you’ll have a successful Langley Summit this year!
