believe it or not, some laws were made prior to today's criminal standards. In fact, when these laws were made, that is exactly what gang members would carry. knives. switch blades, butterfly knives and ballistic knives were the favorite to carry. Cal knife laws haven't been significantly changed since the 1850's. The dirk and dagger laws were written then. Auto and switchblade laws were introduced in the late 1950's. Arizona and Texas had more restrictive knife laws than California until a few years ago.

If I want to buy a firearm here in Idaho, I walk into the firearms dealer, point at the gun, point at a couple of boxes of ammunition, point at a couple extra 30 round magazines, fill out the BATF form 4473, have NO background check (I have a CWL, and no background check required), pay the money, and walk out the door with my new gun, ammunition, magazines, and whatever else is manufactured for legitimate firearms in a free country, guaranteed available to a law abiding citizen by the Second Amendment. Man I'm glad I live in Oregon "never thought I'd say that" you can own and carry just about anything you want, including switchblades, and butterfly knives. The Oregon supreme Court ruled that all knifes are considered Arms and are therefore protected by the second amendment of the United States. coincidentally, two of the knife brands he showed are made in the Portland area.

Fun Fact: there is no minimum age requirement regarding knives. I’m 15 and carry a folding knife for my EDC. Regarding schools, no you can’t bring a knife to a public school and most private schools. I can’t wait to turn 21 so I can get a CWL for a gun instead of this flimsy knife. FYI if you’re a minor and attend school don’t bring a knife to your school. You’ll probably get expelled. So when you’re in the deans office, please don’t tell them a KZbin comment told you that you could.

When the cop spotted my USMC knife on the console he asked if he could see it. It was an assisted opening knife with my Recon Unit emblem on the side. He flipped it open a few times and smiled. I showed him my license and registration. Easypeasy 30 seconds later he asked: where can I get one and do they they make it with the CHP emblem. The subject isn't about a double-edged knife. The problem is that a fixed bladed knife cannot be concealed in California. If in a sheath, it has to be displayed openly. So the Schrade knife cannot be concealed under a shirt...it has to be shown in public view. This is why a folder is always a preferable choice

That's interesting. Where I live (Texas) as of a new law passed in 2017 you can carry any kind of knife you want (that doesn't violate federal law) any way you want. You could carry a broad sword if you wanted to.

formerly working for a local knife dealer and having to be well versed in knife law lingo it is ILLEGAL to carry a double edged knife upon your person in any fashion ! it does not fall under the open carry of a fixed blade penal code. Essentially the law states that you may open carry any fixed blade knife regardless of length so long it is worn on the belt in full view excluding those that are double edged and those which have a D- Ring or Brass Knuckle guard that encompasses the whole hand and of course unless otherwise prohibited by local statutes such as city ordinances or prohibitions by entertainment centers such as theme parks, stadiums, shopping centers that post signage regarding its prohibition, federal and state buildings. In addition state and local laws vary - cannot open carry or conceal a fixed blade knife at all in LA city, Oakland, San Francisco, and Sacramento. Typically folding knives are allowed to be carried concealed upon the person at a length of 4 inches and under in the state of CA unless otherwise noted including the previously mentioned locales which have length limits of 3 inches and under for folding knives.

None of that applies in LA county. Does not matter if its 1/4 inch or 6 inch long blade fix or foldable single or double edge. If law enforcement catches you with any blade concealed or not they will have a cow or two. Unless you're stupid lucky and the officer is legitimately cool they might let you off with a warning and ask that you do not carry on your person. Ask me how I know. Which sucks since I like to collect different types of "blade tools".

Remember when you carry a knife that Local Laws are also enforced as well as State Laws. San Diego for example has additional carry laws you need to be aware of if you go there. Outside of CA, New York City is the best example of how local laws can be very different from state laws.

Interestingly enough there's no actual legal definition for a sword in California, it simply fits into the category of a dirk or dagger, meaning that not only is it perfectly okay to open carry a sheathed sword in public, it's actually required since it cannot be concealed

OKLAHOMAWILD EDC I have to go to Burbank Ca. about every for months and it is just a nightmare trying to get around in that city yet alone the stores. Then you are listening to at least six different ethnic groups that will not speak English. Oh, ya! I really hate the place however the weather is pretty nice. A truck driver friend ( retired now) said they even have laws regarding how old the tractor can be to haul things in the state. Which happens to be 5 years . Most tractors are just getting broke in at that age. Crazy law makers.

Basically any useless/mall ninja/impractical blade that's used as weapons in movies are illegal, whilst scary but more practical knives have to be broadcasted to everyone as you carry it. Got it. Yeah New York has goofy knife laws too. No autos/balis/otfs/daggers(double edged) unless hunting or fishing with a valid license. Knife misconceptions are almost more painful than gun misconceptions. Society just needs to quit being soft.

In the County of Los Angels all dual edge blades are illegal, L.A. County has some of strictest laws in the state so keep that in mind.
