It’s expensive to have an LLC in California. Can’t you set one up in a different state where fees and taxes are lower.

Yes, it IS expensive to have an LLC in California. California requires that any person doing business in or from the state pay the $800 annual business tax regardless of where the LLC is registered. Doing business can be as simple as making phone calls for the business.
