California Native Seed: How to Identify, Collect and Sow the Future with Nursery Manager and Restoration Volunteer Outreach Coordinator for SAMOFund in Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area,
Antonio Sanchez.
The Southern California Horticultural Society is excited to welcome Antonio Sanchez, nursery manager and restoration volunteer outreach coordinator for SAMOFund in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, for our upcoming meeting on September 12th. With nearly two decades of experience working with native plants, Sanchez has been a passionate advocate for the California native plant community, both as a horticulturist and the lead singer of the native plant band Sage Against the Machine.
Sanchez has been involved in numerous native plant initiatives across California, including organizing the California Native Food Symposium, the Southern California Monarch and Milkweed Conference, and the California Native Sage Festival. He has held key roles at prominent institutions such as Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden and the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, and co-founded Nopalito Native Plant Nursery in Ventura, CA.
During the event, Sanchez will present “California Native Seed - How to Identify, Collect, and Sow the Future,”where attendees will learn how to identify native seeds, collect and store them, and apply techniques for growing native plants in their own gardens. Featured species include White Sage, Toyon, Lupines, Narrowleaf Milkweed, and more. The session will equip gardeners and enthusiasts with valuable knowledge to foster native plant growth and biodiversity.
