good content as always...curious on braid being a no no...why is that? thanks
@TheJoyofLiving4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the support Ro. I use braided lines on the beach. The braided lines allow me to feel the sensitivity a lot better than monocarbon or fluorocarbon. I use braided lines on the beach because I have a lot of space and not many poles and lines from other fishermen are next to me. I avoid braided lines on the pier because there are a lot of nearby lines near mines. Small pier and limited space, especially on crowded days. The braided line tend to be a lot lighter and the wind will blow your line around. Causing the braided lines to get tangle to other lines. When the braided lines get tangle with other lines and people reel in their lines, the braided line causes abrasion to the mono line. Enough abrasion will weaken the mono line and cause the line to snap when casting the snares. Mono lines has a higher resistant to the wind than braided lines, so entanglement by the wind is minimal unless the wind is 10mph or higher. Just being courteous to other fishermen when it comes to the pier. Thanks for the questions Ro!

I have a question can you use a crab snare in Southern California?
@TheJoyofLiving3 жыл бұрын
Hey J. I am going to copy and paste the answer. Are Crab Snares with Loops legal in SoCal? (Commonly asked question) There is no quick answer to this question. Stay with me for the answer. The answer is not about grey areas, but rather facts. Crab Snaring with loops is allowed in California. Throughout California. However, you cannot use loop snares to catch Spiny Lobsters. Spiny Lobsters are the main recreational activity South of Lopez Point (North of Point Arguello). We rarely have Spiny Lobster in NorCal. Just like there are rarely Dungeness Crabs in SoCal. The water is too warm for the Dungees down there and the water is too cold for the Spiny Lobsters up here. If Fish & Game see you use a loop snare South of Point Lopez, they are going to assume you are using loop snares for Lobsters, because Spiny Lobster is the big attraction in SoCal; not Rock or Dungeness Crabs. Due to that fact, people assume snare loops are not allowed in SoCal. But there is no regulation that says you can't catch Rock and Dungeness Crabs with loops snares in SoCal. It's a long explanation. Better to buy your snares, go up north to at least Monterey Bay for some Dungeness Crabbing, and catch you something nice and meaty like Dugeness Crabs. Good luck and CRAB ON!!!

is it legal to use crab snares (with the loops) down in SoCal (orange county) ?
@TheJoyofLiving4 жыл бұрын
Floyd, I appreciate the support brother. Are Crab Snares with Loops illegal in SoCal? There is no quick answer to this question. Stay with me for the answer. The answer is not about grey areas, but rather facts. Crab Snaring with loops is allowed in California. Throughout California. However, you cannot use loop snares to catch Spiny Lobsters. If Fish & Game see you use a loop snare South of Point Lopez, they are going to assume you are using loop snares for Lobsters, because there are no Dungees down there. Due to that fact, people assume snare loops are not allowed in SoCal. But it makes sense because why use loop snares in a place you can't catch Dungees. But there is no regulation that says you can't catch Dungeness or Rock Crabs with loops snares in SoCal. Now, I've heard of a Spiny Lobster being caught near Pacifica Pier once. Maybe the lobster got lost some how. Same can go for Dungees. But it is not common enough to not have suspicions. Especially when loop snares are not allowed for an area focused mainly on lobsters and not crabs. It's a long explanation. Better to buy your snares, go up north to at least Monterey Bay for some Dungeness Crabbing, and have no issues with authorities. And you'll have a better chance catching Dungees as well. Good luck and CRAB ON!!!

Is that another stamp I have to buy To crab It's all California does nickel and dime
@TheJoyofLiving3 жыл бұрын
I know exactly what you mean. Fortunately, Recreational Crabbing is completely free.....mostly. You don't need to purchase any stamps or permit cards for catching crabs in California. Also, you don't need a fishing license for any public piers and jetties in California as well. Grab you some MOON's SNARES next season for a guarantee catch and you are all good to go! Good luck. I read online that you don’t need a license to fish or crab from a public fishing pier is that correct? Because beginning of your video you said differently.
@TheJoyofLiving4 жыл бұрын
Hi James. Thanks for the support bud, and sorry for the late reply. You are absolutely correct. You do not need a fishing license while fishing/crabbing any public piers or jetties. I didn't mention this is the Quick Version and left it out. I think I mentioned it in the Long Version when I went into more details. Hope this helps!
