At 1:41, this shot is looking west on Wilshire Bl. at Wilton. I live a few blocks away from there. The tall building on the right is the Wiltern theatre at the corner of Wilshire and Western.

The building at 1:52 is in Culver City, not Hollywood like the narrator says. Amazingly, it still looks exactly like that today. It was used as the fascade for Terra in "Gone With The Wind."

Not so. Tara had 4 large columns and only 4 windows across the main entrance section. Hello IDLERACER...are you still there 12 years later?

1:45 is Pershing Square in downtown Los Angeles. That park no longer is like that, its now open typical suburban grass with few benches and few Modern architecture (ugly) structures.

No they aren't. The weather is great, the coast is beautiful. (Much is preserved by all those 'oppressive government' regulation) This allows everyone to enjoy. The fifth largest economy in the world. Allot of opportunities , but you must be smarter than a GDE, high school level. If you dont have that, blame yourself.

Nah . . . Most of what you see in the video has been protected as historic sites (in the case of buildings) or state and national parks/forests in the case of natural landscapes. You just have to do a little more research on how to get there (all the missions still exist as historic sites, and theres tons of buildings from Old Hollywood if you know where to look). (You certainly have to drive A LOT further to see orange groves, but theres plenty in the San Joaquin Valley, and even in Ventura county west of Valencia. Like someone mentioned - Pershing Suare is hideous compared to what it originally was, but I understand they wanted to make it so they have performances there.

Gotta laugh at how they say Californias initiation was because of the "first 'white' settlement". LOL! Thank god times have changed in our ways of thinking. Cool to see my neighborhood (1:39) looking east on Wilshire from Wilton. In the distance, the tall building on the right is the Wiltern Theater at the intersection of Wilshire and Western.

NYC1927 what are you talking about the California Republic and American State of California were both a manifestation of white settlement so thus it began there. Just like the founding of Massachusetts is 1620 when white settlers arrived. No difference. They certainly would avoid explicitly stating “white” settlers today because today minorities are 50% of the America’s populace, but they’d still probably state the founding as being the date “settlers” arrived, without specifying “white settlers”. But it’s implied. It’s not like Mexico or Spanish-colonized countries.
