I'd be shocked if Jim didn't consider this, but calling from the top of the mountain fits with the ending of The Ascent. To be standing at the summit, the culminatination of your most critically apraised album, in a moment celebrating human connection and boundless resilience...and suddenly despite all that the mountain itself, the earth beneath you, is ripped away, and you find yourself voiceless.

I strongly believe Charcoal Grace is their best album yet.

Song felt almost tailor made for me. Spent years surviving trauma and building myself up in every conceivable way to realize a lifelong dream I had. Dream got butchered and I with it, just recently, in possibly the worst and most ironic way imaginable. Nearly killed myself for meaningful human connections and despite my efforts, found myself completely alone at what felt like the end of everything that ever was. And at the very end of absolutely everything that ever was, I stayed alive long enough to see you guys live front stage in Philly (I was the guy jumping and recording near the entire time up front next to Jim). My absolute favorite band for nearly a decade, that I wanted to go see when Covid happened. Took an extra 3-4 years of waiting, but it was worth it. Shortly after, I saw the slightest glimpse of something so incomprehensibly beautiful that it shook me beyond my core and ricocheted inside me to the depths of what can be humanly understood as emotion. Proof of bonds, connections and human understanding so profoundly rich that it proved beyond a doubt for me that the world we live in is a template we can shape with our own hands. That my dreams are valid, my efforts valid and that every single drop of blood, sweat and bile I shed and spill in those efforts is valid. That through and in tears, I saw that heaven on earth exists objectively and that with my weary and bloodied hands, that I can help build it into existence. That’s what “Mute” means to me and that’s what it’s all about. I’m on the road to ruin, sticking gauze in my mouth and trying not to choke as I hobble towards the light. Bringing everyone I come into contact with along with me and showing that we have the power to manifest our dreams into reality with love, trust and understanding as the pigments with which to paint a vibrant arching skyline beyond imagination. That said, thank you guys for your many years of songs to no one in particular. Cheers 🍻

Mute instantly became my most loved song of the Album, and Jim got it right, the fact that it connects so well with Breathe gently pushes you to re listen. I gotta thank you all for this piece of Art. Every time I listen the Album I find something new to cling to and love for a while until I move on to the next discovery, without forgetting what I loved/touched me before, so it is catharsis after catharsis. Since In Contact, you guys have been a source for self healing to me, and I thank you for that. Your music was and IS my resilience. The way is forward.

Mute is by far my favourite song on the record. The hautning intro, The wind wood coming in the for the first time, the crushing riffs. It all just meshes together into this beautiful heartfelt journey that i just cant stop listening to. Thanks guys, i hope i get to listen to this live at some point down the track ❤

I know Jim talked about this on his own stream a bit and it was clearly very personal to him. Glad the band can talk about it all now.

That's crazy that Jim was having issues with his voice. Saw them last month in Atlanta and he sounded incredible. Stellar show and the new album is amazing.

This album plays like a Mahler Symphony. It is so unified and unique at once, full of little moments that only exist within its bounds.

i love the connection (lyrically and sonically) between The World Breathes With Me and Mute SO SO much, it's so full circle and makes the album endlessly loop-able (not a word lol). But those details can easily be lost these days when we just listen to albums once or twice and move on. i've been listening repeatedly for weeks since the album came out and i'm just starting to truly appreciate that connection. *sigh* music rules. I will end my comment with this, every single time i hear Mute, i have the overwhelming feeling to shout from a mountain top as well, for someone to really hear me. I yelled out the first line when i saw you guys in LA, i can't sign for shit and the people around me didn't seem too pleased. but i needed that. thank you.

I always think the every great album needs to finish with either a boom or a soft release of preassure, but MY GAAAWWWD, Mute is something else entirely. Thank you, Caligula's Horse.

Mute is your top song for me. The woodwind is absolute phenomenal and brings some Japanese vibes to the song.

I got into you guys in 2019, I fell in love with almost your entire discography and then Rise Radiant blew me the hell away. I didn't know how you guys would top Graves, and then you did with Autumn and The Ascent. Then again, I wondered how you would top those last 2 songs on Rise Radiant. And then again you guys delivered 👏 As a fan of almost 5 years, I can comfortably say that The World Breathes With Me and Mute are my favorite songs from you guys, period. And I'm glad that you all overcame the struggles you faced during the pandemic. Cheers to you guys, and here's to the future!

This album is INCREDIBLE! It's been on repeat in my car everyday (I drive a lot of my day) for 2 months. I'm absolutely amazed by it and addicted to it. Love you guys. Thanks for the music... it helps me more than you could ever imagine. PS. I was SOOO happy to finally see you guys live in Berkeley. I had tickets to the 5/2020 show at Slim's in SF that obviously was canceled and waited 4yrs for you guys to be able to come to the States. I had so much fun! I can't wait to be able to see you again

I'm looking forward to this song repeatedly saving my soul, in the next months. And SEE YOU GUYS IN MAY FINALLY after all this time, it's gonna be awesome!! Rise Radiant, no matter how much its birth was stamped by the pandemic, was there with me for the hardest years of my life recently. It's helped me to stay above the flood of awfulness. Now Charcoal Grace is here to push me to look back, catalogue, reminesce and maybe, slowly, come to terms with things. Truly, truly thank you. What an album.

I recently rediscover you guys, as I'm dumb and sometimes I abandon things I really enjoy for no logical reason. I'm so happy I did it just in time to catch this masterpiece of an album, and I'll get to see you soon in Europe!

I am currently running a D&D campaign set during the Second Sundering of the Gods, so Mute fits so well when it comes to the thoughts and feelings of Ao the Overgod who has to rip a world in two and separate Gods from Mortals, infact the whole album is a masterpiece of RPG inspiration.

I found out about Caligula's Horse in December, and was seriously impressed already by Bloom. This album though is an easy AotY choice, from start to finish it is truly incredible. Mute especially hits in a way modern prog has failed for me lately, gives me goosebumps lol

Thanks for doing this series guys, I've found it really interesting. Although people take and weave their own meanings into songs, its great to get the perspective of the actual artist and what they put into the songs. I've been a super fan since Moments, and its been really amazing watching (hearing) you go further and further musically and just keep making such great art. You say you don't do it for the money, so I feel its even more important to say how much your music means to thousands of people, and how it has helped so many people - especially this one.

Well you guys definitely got me with that outro to make me play the album over and over and over. I know that Rise Radiant did not get the life it deserved, but maybe even because of the world going to shit for a while it stood out to me even more as a work of art. 2020 saw me lose my job, my relationship and my home as direct consequences of covid and I will always remember RR as the album that got me through that year and the following one. That hopeful feeling was exactly what I needed at the time, so thank you for that. Seeing just a few of those songs in your way too short live set last year was an absolute joy, and now I very much look forward to your Amsterdam gig and also seeing you play more tunes from Charcoal Grace, which simply cannot receive enough praise.
