Some people here seem confused. The hardcore/X-rated stuff was done *against* Tinto Brass's wishes and without even his knowledge. The producer, Bob Guccione, of Penthouse, went in on the film's still-existing sets, and shot all of the hardcore stuff without Brass's consent. The film was already done and in the can. Guccione shot and added the X-rated stuff and edited it into the film - so the one that's existed was NOT Tinto Brass's original version - it was Guccione's. THIS version is what Tinto Brass (who is still alive, btw) wanted. The X-rated stuff was removed because it was never supposed to be in Brass's film in the first place. Guccione also chose awful takes where the actors were way over-doing it, whereas Brass had made a much stronger movie and chose better takes of the performances. This is literally a restoration so people can finally see what Tinto Brass *wanted* the film to be, before Bob Guccione screwed it up.

If I understand correctly, the real-life Caligula was a corrupt and incompetent ruler, but many of his alleged outrageous behavior were made up by his political opponents after his death for their own benefit.
@christopherneufelt89713 ай бұрын
Actually the corruption is what made Rome an imperium. They even based their political system on the Athenian and similar to the imperial ambitions of Athens they destroyed their own future. Caligula was the result of a long chain of bad policies, similar to our current state.

@@briancardio6567 A Republic (res public, assembly or thing of the people) is a participation system enclosing most if not all stakeholders. It is different from the Democracy, since its rules are subject to a consensus rather than imposing the rule of the many upon the few, i.e. the republic respects minority stakeholders. The problem with Athens and later with Rome is that the rich stakeholders, abused the system, with first of all Pericles and later the Roman Families, with target to create empires instead of good regulated states. The two party system is an echo of this system, where one party represents the population and the other party represents the industries. @@mikeg2491 Hi Mike. The degeneracy of Rome started from the time that they abandoned the philosophy of the Rule of Law. The immunity for the aristocratic families to investigation and punishment didn't help either. Take care yourself and the ones you love.

@redadamearth3 ай бұрын
No - in fact, they removed literally every scene of hardcore sex from it for this. The reason being, that those scenes weren't supposed to be there. Guccione went in AFTER the film was completed and shot all of those hardcore scenes, using the sets that were still up and then cut them into the film for the original release. The director was furious and basically disowned the movie. This cut removes all of the X-rated scenes and is a restoration of what the director originally wanted.
@tacatube3 ай бұрын
@@redadamearth Guccione was the producer and had the right to do whatever he wanted, also where did you get this info from? Tinto Brass was certainly not the type to get "furious" about porn. In any case butchering and censoring this film is not Umbrella's or anybody else's call. At least they could have offered two cuts and have viewers decided what to watch. This is total woke crap.

This Film is Important and has Educational and Artistic Value, much like Salon Kitty and Bob Guccioni of Penthouse ruined it with Hardcore Porno inserts against the wishes of Cast and Director. Let's Pray to God that this version is the real version as Tinto Brass intended and that the Actors approved of. And why, because this Film has Educational and Historical Value and is Important to get a basic History Lesson of the Fall of Rome, and if it's too much for some, they can always watch Fellini Satyricon. Both Films are Important for Educational and Historical Value to understand where we're at and how the United States is much like Rome was.

Those X-rated scenes were never supposed to be a part of the film. This is a restoration of what the film was SUPPOSED to be before Guccione snuck behind the director's back and made it hardcore. Nothing was removed to "cater to modern audiences" - those scenes weren't supposed to be there in the first place. In other words, THIS version is what Tinto Brass originally wanted. Not the one you've seen before, with the hardcore stuff. That was Guccione's doing.
