You’re always so inspiring. I was going to plant today and just wasn’t feeling it. I trimmed and deadheaded but didn’t plant. But you’ve inspired me to drop in some seeds tomorrow and get more grow lights out for the fall and winter. Thanks. ❤

I'm still growing summer veggies in the greenhouse in MI but my grow light station will be getting a nice cleaning this weekend. I plan to start more lettuce, Asian mustard greens, tiny tomatoes, chives, Tom Thumb peas and a few herbs.

That sounds like a productive weekend ahead! It’s great that you’re still growing summer veggies while prepping for the fall crops. The varieties you’re planning to start sound delicious-especially those tiny tomatoes and mustard greens! Thanks for responding and for following all of these years! CaliKim

Surprise! Single digit temperatures are common here in Sylacauga Alabama-and it its the heart of the south. Zero degrees is not uncommon, and on occassion it gets as cold as -4F. Some years we get snow, some we don't, but cold weather is assured either way. Snow, no snow, and freezing temperatures don't stop me from growing a fall/winter garden. I guess that puts me in camp 4-stuborn outside gardener. Careful selection of cold hardy crops is essential. As if my garden isn't already big enough, I planted four more rised beds with cauliflower and broccoli, and added hoops to three more raised beds. 12 of 16 of my raised beds are being used for my fall garden, growing parsnips, carrots, beets, turnips, red cabbage, Swiss chard, Dutch Cabbage, Komatsuna, Tatsoi, winter choy, Nappa Cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, and Pak Choi. That doesn't count my peppers, strawberries, and assprted herbs. The temps are back up into the mid 80s for the next three days, so shade cloth is going back on tomorrow morning. I finally have an appoinment to see a wound specialist on Monday for the rattlesnake bite. The wound has healed a lot over the last month, but threre are still a few more weeks of healing to go. Three or four more chapters and Exiles From Earth will be finished, then a review, editing, and getting it ready for release. I am also working on plotting NASTI Business (Nexus Advanced Systems Technology, Inc.). It takes more than a little snake bite to get me down. Okay, a rattlesnake bite is pretty nasty, and hurts like hell. I don't recommend getting bitten by one. It is definetely off the bucket list. Now that the weather has started cooling off, and I'm mosly healed-again, it is time to dust off the ebike and go riding. For now, I am going to stick to paved roads. 2024 hasn't been a good year for injuries, so I'll wait until next year to go back to being adventurous.

I already grow basil indoors so I will be expanding my indoor garden this year. This year I'm going to try Tiny Tim tomatoes indoors again. Tried a couple of year ago with no luck. But this year I intend to be successful. I've already got my seedlings started for my outdoor fall garden. Looking forward to cooler temperatures in SoCal and those fresh greens and brassicas!

I'm in camp 3 and excited to start my indoor garden. I've got the seeds already and I just ordered the 1 gal Smart Pots. I've already got my indoor growing station set up in my dining room 😂. One thing I will add that you didn't mention in the comments is microgreens and sprouts. I can't wait to have my kitchen window all decked out with herbs and microgreens. What do you recommend for indoor gardening when you did not use the soil that you recommended and you have gnat or little flying bugs. Is there something you recommend that I can use to fix that issue at this point?
@CaliKim29
@CaliKim29 Күн бұрын
Yes, I can! Fungus gnats are pretty common with indoor gardening when the soil stays too moist or wasn’t the best mix. Here’s a few things you can do to get rid of them: Let the soil dry out - Fungus gnats thrive in moist soil, so try to let the top couple of inches dry out between waterings. Yellow sticky traps - These will catch adult gnats and reduce the population. Place them near your plants to trap the flyers. Neem oil - Dilute neem oil in water and spray the top of the soil and plants. It works as a natural insecticide. Hydrogen peroxide solution - Mix 1 part hydrogen peroxide (3% strength) with 4 parts water and water your plants with this solution. It will kill the larvae in the soil but is safe for the plants. Bottom watering - This helps keep the top of the soil dry, reducing the chances of gnats laying eggs. These should help clear up the gnat issue while keeping your plants healthy. LMK if this helps! Cindy, I can't tell if you are a subscriber or not, but if you are finding my channel helpful, please do subscribe - as this helps me on the KZbin side!!! Keep me posted - CaliKim

I haven't done indoors even tho my main rooms face south But I'm very interested with fall/winter growing starting with easy PEAS & chives. 🫛LED lights don't take up much energy.
