Hi!Cali Kim. I am trying for the 1st time growing sugar baby watermelons, vertical. They are about 2 feet tall, and at the tops is fuzzy. Am I suppose to trim or prune them ,or just let them keep growing? Thank you for explaining where 1st time growers understand.

Tips for Harvesting and Storing Carrot Leaves Harvesting: Pick the carrot leaves when they are fresh and vibrant. Avoid leaves that are yellowing or wilted. Storing: Store carrot leaves in the refrigerator, wrapped in a damp paper towel inside a plastic bag. They should last for a few days. Washing: Wash the leaves thoroughly to remove any dirt or debris before using them. These help???? CK

Since I started mulching my strawberries with wood chips over shredded leaves (because of jumping worms) and a perennial cover crop of thyme, my strawberries have really almost doubled in size. I believe it is due to the increase in the fungal composition of the soil. All I fertilize with is home raised worm castings and a few compost/worm teas throughout the year. One year I gave too much nitrogen, had huge plants but tiny berries. Enjoy your channel, Stay Well!!!!

Is insecticidal soap safe to use on plant areas that will be eaten? Like herbs, for example.
@CaliKim2917 сағат бұрын
Yes, insecticidal soap is generally considered safe to use on edible plants, including herbs. Insecticidal soaps are made from potassium salts of fatty acids and are effective against soft-bodied insects like aphids, mealybugs, and spider mites. They work by penetrating the insect's outer shell and causing cell collapse, leading to the insect's death. Hope this helps - CaliKim thanks for subscribing! CK

Thanks so much, Green thumb - glad the tips are helpful. I've heard its very hot in FL right now. Most of these greens should do pretty well in your summer heat, as long as their roots are pretty well established.But you might want to throw some shade cloth over them if it's above 100. I live in Arizona where our high is 115 degrees to 120 degrees. Will those plants grow in our massive heat?
@CaliKim29Күн бұрын
Hi Putin - that's crazy heat. If the roots are well established, and you mulch around the base 2-3 inches eep, they should do pretty well up to 100. After that, most everything struggles, unless covered with shade cloth. One of our viewers in southern AZ puts up a shade cloth structure for most of the summer, and is able to grow a ton this way. Good luck and keep me posted! Thanks for subscribing if you haven't already and a thumbs up always helps us! Appreciate it!

Is your display the bush or trailing variety? Either way, because they drop a lot of seeds that will likely survive, is the ensuing density problematic to keep up with it planted in the ground? Does old growth become thick & woody? Are they invasive or difficult to thin out if not contained in a pot? Do the bush nasturtiums spread quickly in the ground and how tall?
@stephaniegee2272 күн бұрын
Silly question - most things change flavor when they bolt. What about the kale? I read somewhere that the flowers didn't change the taste of the greens?
@CaliKim292 күн бұрын
Hi Stephanie - it's actually sweetest in the cooler winter weather here in So Cal, and/or when harvested as baby leaves. I haven't found a huge difference in flavor when it bolts, we use the larger leaves in our smoothies almost every day. So delicious! Which variety are you growing?
@stephaniegee2272 күн бұрын
@@CaliKim29 We did three varieties here in the mid South. The lacinto did NOT bolt, where the other two did. We have very little cooler weather, and this spring caused our kale to bolt in March. All but the lacinto.

Hi Kim. Last Thursday I harvested out my shelling peas and snow peas. In their place I have Martino's Roma tomatoes growing. Friday I harvested out the kohlrabi and potatoes, and I harvested Swiss Chard. Saturday I picked zucchini, crookneck squash, lemon squash, and cucumbers. I have fall potatoes chitting for a July 2nd planting date. I don't have a replacement crop for the kohlrabi yet, but soon, so I covered the bare soil with leaf mold. In July, I ll start seeds for cabbage, and transplant the seedilings where I have carrots growing, and pulled up the kohlrabi. In August I'll start seeds for brocolli, cauliflower, and Napa Cabbage. They are my replacement plants for the summer squash and ground cherries. The cantaloupe and watermelon will be replaced with turnips and carrots. From there, I'll have to decide on what I want to grow into the winter-definetely more garlic. My leg still hurts. The nursing staff yelled at me for not going to the ER at last Friday's hospital appointment. No, I still havent seen a doctor for it. Ready or not, I have two peach trees to plant, and a Prairie Fire crabapple tree coming in the mail Tuesday, so I have to get digging. It is close to summer. I am supposed to be sitting in the shade, eating porch tomatoes, and drinking sun tea while watching the garden grow, not working my butt off. LOL!😄😄😄
