I really like the ice tray organiser idea, I'd never thought of it before, its a great ghetto solution (and probably as good as any 'professional' solution) for keeping small parts together where you left them and at the same time minimising hydraulic fluid egress 👍 I'll trade you "use knitting needle protectors on your picks" to protect the tip if you drop it on the floor and so you don't accidentally stab yourself.

Yeah I felt that the videos up on youtube on this type of service were either too long, too boring or filmed with a potato in someone's darkly lit basement. Also they typically focus on either caliper or lever, not both. Thanks for watching fellow!

nice tutorial. hope brakes are made with such quality they are so nice to work on . A pleasure to keep working well. I Got some Hayes Dominions on my new bike . People keep telling how good they are , they may be just as good if not better. They are however very ugly and don't have the same presence on my bike as the hopes. I will give them 1 month to impress me otherwise the hopes will be moving in.

I so wish I'd thought about the piston removal sequence before servicing my E4 brakes. It's really really important. Once one piston pops out you lose hydraulic pressure and you're left wondering how to remove the others. You definitely have to remove the pistons on the inside first - definitely.

@@Frorideism OK, all cool! I'm a bike mech from Munich, I'm doing DH Bike park hobby ride since 2011, spec. Demo 8, since 2017 with a Scott Gambler 710. But if you buy something from your store, it's always a bit cheaper, you know. So, no criticism about good, expensive bikes🤣‼️ But I have one question, how much did you spend on the complete hope bike? Of course, I like my Fox 40 Kashima, for the performance and the Optik! Or my Öhlins TTx 22m coil spring shock, 2014 for my demo 8 frame as well. But, for me, all bikes with original prices over 6 or 7 thousand € or $, are developing in the wrong direction. You take care about the clean shinning beautiful color parts of your bike. I'm glad and happy, when I return from a weekend in Leogang ( Austrian Neighborhood) or Geißkopf ( Bavarian bike park), without any broken parts. Bike parts or body parts. And because of that, it's not really useful, if all bikes costs 10000 or 12000 or 14000 €. Exept the bike company's, as long somebody is buying their expensive stuff, each year. But, that's my opinion about the price Politik. I also always like the newest and best stuff, but there should be some normal money amount enough 😂😂🤑😂😂😂😂

I dismantled some Hope brakes that I inherited but weren't working. I cleaned them up, put new seals in (exactly as they were before), but now everything is together, the brake lever does not push any liquid through? Nothing leaves the reservoir, but the small hole is not blocked? Any idea what has gone wrong?

@@Frorideism not so funny when the nail turns all white and brittle and almost falls off after getting in touch with that stuff. May take month to regrow. Rather annoying tbh... Depending on if its SRAM, Shimano or any other oil it is very corrosive toy our skin as well. I go for gloves next time.
@PsyMongSki

@@oranjid Dot 5.1 is whats in these hope brakes, it is not so bad as other types. If your handling it all the time yes wear gloves 100%. But the once a year brake rebuild is not a problem with how little you handle it.

@@PsyMongSki the shimano stuff got under the nail of my thumb once and half of it just turned white and brittle..took weeks to grow out. Nasty stuff. Even if DOT is less corrosive I guess I´d stick to gloves with all that stuff, not sure if any additives are inside that can get into your system by the skin. Better be safe :)
@PsyMongSki
@PsyMongSki 4 ай бұрын
@@oranjid out of all the brake fluids the shimano Mineral Oil is the most safe for skin, I would say the shimano stuff definitely was not to blame for any problems with your nail, unless you have an allergy to it it will be something else. Its really good stuff won't damage any paint of finishes and is so much better for the environment. My brother has bad skin and thr dot can be irritating for him so he uses gloves even with the once a year rebuild or every few month bleeds. I have never really used gloves and the brake fluids have never caused me any trouble, the mineral oil actually made my hands a bit soft.

You should really be wearing gloves when working with DOT.
@WhoomanBeing
@WhoomanBeing Жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t put anything except DOT fluid on the seals. DOT is what lubricates the seals in this case, with shimano and magura it would be mineral oil. If you want to greatly extend the life of your brakes you should lube the oil seals at least once a year. A few tiny drops of braking liquid, corespondent to the brakes, per seal followed by “half-pull” tbe levers a dozen times to make sure everything is lubricated, then push the pistons into the brakes and wipe the brake clean with a little of alcohol. Preferably you will do this once or twice a year, when bleeding or changing pads.
