Their brakes do last forever, I have been a Hope brake lover for about 30 years now. My inventory of spares is quite mad, if anyone is looking for old school Hope bits give me a ring. My Wifer will be thankful. Be super careful with brake fluid is my mantra. My latest build is Mondraker Foxy R with Hope Brakes and their vented rotors Ohlins suspension, life is so good now. 👍🏽

Love my Hope brakes so many different ways to bleed them. Think next time i will have a crack at this way i want to flush the whole system out completely with new fluids and this way would be perfect for that. One thing you missed and its such a tiny thing, the bleed nipple can hold a drop or 2 of fluid so its a good idea to teist a bit of towl and poke it inside to pick that drop up. I bet you dod it but forgot to say it. Brilliant informative video super clear thanks.

Hi, i have a question, i lately rebuilt levers and calipers with new seals and pistons, fitted braided hoses on them and did everything as you explained but it seems like there is some air trapped inside still, since pistons of the caliper are new and pushed in i cannot manage to get them moving outwards, lever goes fully to handlebars and i dont know what to do anymore, tried it 3 times and still no progress towards pistons moving out.
@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic6 ай бұрын
Hi, A stupid question but when you rebuilt the levers did you put the one wate washers on the piston right?, can you pass fluid freely from the caliper up to the lever and does the reservoir fill up?, when the reservoir is full can you press the lever and does fulid fill the syringe on the caliper?
@LukePridestalker6 ай бұрын
@@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic ty for asking, i did put washer on the right side, i sorted it out and bled them correctly, problem was that i did not put bleed nipple on the caliper to be highest point of the caliper during the bleed and it got lots of air stuck inside the system, now they work as new :D

Hi Paul, we buy them in bulk, www.medisave.co.uk/terumo-syringe-20ml-luer-slip-eccentric-tip-x-box-of-50.html they are only used once then disposed of, that way we dont get cross contamination and the silicone tube sticks better to the end when new

Any reason to use dot 4 over the 5.1 that hopes come factory bled with?
@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic3 жыл бұрын
Simply it’s a little cheaper and perfectly adequate for bike Mtb brakes, 5.1 has a higher boiling point.

@@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic Any issues with gelling? I had always heard never to mix 4.0 with 5.1 for that reason.
@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic2 жыл бұрын
@@JuanRamirez-hk8sf Hi, Thanks for watching, Since DOT 4 and 5.1 are both glycol-based brake fluids they are compatible with each other, which means they can be readily mixed without harming your brake system. It is important never to mistake DOT 5.1 (glycol-based) with DOT 5 which is silicone-based and should never be mixed with any other DOT fluid.

I do have the bleed kit for the new Tech4 brakes. Used the Hope Bleed video to bleed them after shortening the hoses. I just saw that bleeding the caliper I did wrong I guess. Did not fix the lever on the bar and pushed the pistons back.. After doing that 3 times on different days, the lever still feels "spongy". Might try this again like you did it. Or the lever feel is just as it is with Hope brakes coming from Shimanos.

@@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic hey, so I tried it again after watching your video. The lever feels the same afterwards. There was no air behind the pistons. I took the bike for a ride after that and while the lever feel more squishy than shimanos the braking power is top notch. So I guess I was not used to that feel. Thanks a lot though. @TheYorkshireBikeMechanic3 жыл бұрын
Hi, as long as there is no air in the system this is the best way to do it, if you pump the lever it and encourage you to add more fluid then when you put new pads in the pistons don’t retract fully, it’s also best if you put bleed and put new pads in at the same time.

Apart from removing air in the system I thought one of the reasons for bleeding brakes was to flush out old fluid and replacing with fresh, or is this not necessary? Love the channel, toodle pip.
@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Thanks for watching, brake fluid and mineral oil goes grey and thin when spent, you can usually tell pretty quickly what condition the oil is in. Also by filling one syringe full and the other nearly empty to can still make a full fluid change and still remove air.

Hi can i ask I'm shortening my brand new rear hope e4 hydraulic disc hose, i don't have a stand can i complete this with wheel on and do the pads need to be open or closed cheers.

Hi David, you don’t need a stand to do it, if it’s not internally routed fit the brake then shorten at the lever end. Leave the calliper as it came out of the box. Shorted then re-connect it, don’t press the lever, push the pads back this will send any air back into the lever lever then set them up as normal

DOT 4 for HOPE Brakes???
@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Thanks for watching. Hope brakes are designed to operate with DOT 4 or DOT 5.1 brake fluid. These are both glycol based fluids and can be mixed, although it's advisable to flush the line through with the new fluid to maintain a constant performance. DOT 4 will typically have a lower boiling point than DOT 5.1 and be more viscous (thicker).
